I recently purchased an IH Cub. I was told it is a 1949 but I have seen some pics. of a '49 and they look different. The ones I saw have the exhaust going up through the hood, mine comes down and to the rear. There is not a hole in hood to run exhaust through and so I believe the underslung exhaust was original. I have several good pics. I could send to anyone that would like to see.
Thanks,Owen

If you can not find the a serial number tag (many are missing) give us one of the casting codes from the tractor. For a 1949 the casting codes would end in a S but if it was an early 1949 they could end with a R.
If any of the codes are later then that either the part was replaced or you have a different year tractor.
Hope it helps, have fun with your new CUB.

The plate with the serial number is located on the right side just behind where the steering shaft enters the steering gear box. If the plate is missing there should be 4 small rivit holes where it was attached. If it is there, try to read all the numbers and look it up in the FAQS section on the home page here. The serial numbers went from five digits to six digits during 1950's production.
