More Wiring Questions

Postby jsmit » Wed May 26, 2004 8:28 am

Most Helpful Gurus of Cub-dom

I am ready to re-wire my cub and I recall in my travels a chart or diagram lisiting the proper gauges and colors for the wires (wire gauge being more important to me, at this point) I have an operator's manual and service manual, but I don't see this info in there. Has anyone come across this listing for the proper wire guages anywhere, I just can't remember where I saw it! and Im only 30, god help me!

I would run #10 wire for the charging circuit (generator to ammeter to battery cable). #14 wire will handle everything else.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Hello jsmit

Maybe this link will help.

You can buy wiring harnesses from Carter and Gruenwald. If you choose to make your own, follow Big Dog's advise. I don't know if there are "correct colors" or not. The wire colors in the harnesses made now don't match the colors in original harnesses. The wires are different colors just help keep them straight. This might be a good topic for Wireharness to discuss with you. He knows someone who makes wiring harnesses. Check the memberlist or archives and send him a PM.

Check the server under Specialty Services. The Wireharness addy is there. Oh, got an email from a guy who obtained one of his harnesses -- as he said - "Spot ON!" Perfect fit and everything was as per the original.

Oh, I have not gotten one, so I am just forwading on a comment.

The colors on the ATIS wire diagram are not the original colors. Those colors are the ones that showed up best when I drew up wire diagram from info I got from Jim Becker.
If you get the correct colors I can update the drawings or any other changes.
