H cultivators
we have an H at work with a set of cults on it, i can't remember which number... steerable, the right side of the cults lifts up all the way, but the left side only lifts half way or less, the hydraulic cylinder doesn't come all the way out, there's nothing binding it up, just kinda baffling, wondering ifn anybody has any ideas as to what's goin on? i'm bringing in one of my cylinders to see if the cylinder is the problem, just kinda weird
Thanks for any help/ideas

Could there be air in the cylinder? I am guessing your cylinders are single action?

Re: H cultivators
At RPRU I spent some of the rain time searching through manuals for the old implements we had on our H. The implements are long gone, but I now have owners manuals for the cultivator, sickle mower, disk, and one row pull type corn picker. Unfortunately I forgot to get one for the Little Genius #8 plow (on steel). If you need a copy of the cultivator manual, send me a picture of it so I can see if it is the same one.

Re: H cultivators
Are you supplying both sides from the same port?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Re: H cultivators
we checked the fluid level, i guess it was really really low, but even after 2 days of using it, it still hasn't lifted up fully yet, and the right piston is using the right port and left piston is using the left port... we took the hose off of the cylinder and filled the cylinder up with fluid, thinking that maybe it was air bound, but that didn't help either? could there be fluid on the other side of the rod? (on the non pressure side) causing it to try and compress that fluid? i have a spare cylinder i brought it for them to try and see ifn it's just teh cylinder or the tractor...
Thanks John for the offer, but they have the manuals for it i guess.
I want to put on my cultivators too, maybe next year when i'm in college
Thanks for the ideas
Johnny
could it be a steel line inside the tranny? the piston doesn't "jitter" like my loader does when it's out of fluid, it jus goes up, then stops dead, and ifn you keep on the hydro lever, you can hear the engine bog like it's still trying to put out pressure... i suppose i can just rebuild the piston for 15 bucks and not put them out too much money if that don't work...
Thanks again

Re: H cultivators
Try plugging that port and putting a T on the good side and feeding both cylinders from the same port and see if that cylinder still lags. If it does, it's definitely the cylinder. Or you could swap cylinders from right to left and see if the problem stays on the same side.

Re: H cultivators
ok, i'll go over tomorrow maybe and try that, i never thought of just switchign the cylinders that are on there haha i'll also let them know about the T idea, ifn it was mine it'd already be fixed, but they like to leave stuff till its dead then fix it, so it's not completely dead yet, so it probably wont' get fixed stupid people...
Thanks BD

Re: H cultivators
Assuming you have the original Lift-all, and not live hydraulics, the outlets are common, just cast into the housing. If the engine loads when it gets part way up, something is blocking it. Are you sure it is the same cylinder and not a shorter one, or some of the lift linkage is different between the sides. Anothe r possibility is a bent ram in the cylinder that binds part way up.

Re: H cultivators
yes, it's the original lift all, and the cylinders are the same thing, the same cultivators they'v been using since 39 or 40... it didn't life quite all the way up on me, but when they went to use it it only went half way up, i wouldn't imagine it could be bent, but it's possible, and no linkages are binding it up, cause i can go over and lift up the cultivators.

Re: H cultivators
well, my boss let me fool around with it yesterday, and I took the cylinder off, pushed the ball on the quick disconnect in and the rod in at the same time, and quite a bit of air came out, then i put it on the good side and ran it up and down a few times and it worked great, so i put everything back together and it works great, i'v never seen a cylinder get completely air bound? i'm guessing that's what was wrong...
Thanks
Johnny

yup, i'm happy i gots it fixed too i never did ask them where the manual was, but I do have an HM 240 manual that i got off of ePay a while back for my cultivators... i odn't think it's the same model as mine, but close enough counts i think
Johnny
just wondering, you can't have a drawbar on the tractor and the cults on right?
