Corn stalks

Just curious. After picking the corn how many leave the stalks standing to be turned under in the fall? Or, do you leave them on the ground to dry? How about cutting and grinding them green?

Sometimes I bush-hog them down, other times I wait untill fall to disk them under. A 152 disk plow will plow them under standing, but I don't think they decompose much quicker. It's fun though.

Back when I was on the farm, we turned the cattle in to eat what they would, then later bush hogged, and plowed them under with a molboard plow. Now I use the flail to knock them down, and turn them under with the 151 rear disk plow.

chop green and plow under before they dry out!---used to cut and grind them, but no longer able to do that now. thanks; sonny

I agree. I have a great grinder but bending over to pick up stalks is a pain in the...back.
