Tractor Power

Postby John Pheiffer » Fri Jan 07, 2005 11:20 am

I just overhauled my 1948 cub, everything checks out, but it has no power in 3rd gear at all. I am at a loss as to what to look for. Can someone give me some clues as to what to check out.

John - is the governor responding to load changes?
If so, re-check the timing. It really sounds like the governor is not working.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that!

Late ignition timing. Govenor. As per Big Dog.

Weak spark. Poor plugs, gap not set correctly. (Tune up - plugs, points condensor, not using copper plug wires?)

Partially plugged air cleaner.

Valve tappet clearence to loose.

Really off the wall - coil starting to break down.

John, if you are posting here rather than the cub forum because you are having trouble signing in, drop me or one of the other moderators a note and we will try to help you.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
