Higher ammo prices soon
I heard by spring the ammo prices will go even higher. I been hoping the rumor is wrong but i really don't think so. Its time to stock up on ammo and reloading supplies too.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: Higher ammo prices soon
Been down in the basement getting ready for spring. Just loaded 38,45,&44mag. Using my own cast bullets 44's cost about 8 cents per round compared to 45 cents for factory loads. Takes a little time but sure makes trips to the range a lot easier on my wallet.

Trouble with that is, at our Wally World if you don't get there the day the ammo arrives, it's gone! Haven't seen a good supply there for at least 2 years.

You don't need to enact new gun control laws if ammo is so expensive the average bear can't afford it.

.308 shells were 41.00 a box at wal mart during hunting season and shot gun shells were almost as bad. i agree no new gun laws needed if the ammo is to high. maybe w need to learn how to knap arrow heads

Just a matter of time before they try to eliminate black powder as a potential explosive.Virginia Mike wrote:.....Or flints for our flintlocks.

Re: Higher ammo prices soon
We been reloading 308win right now. I also have a LEE 1000 progressive press set up for 45acp. Before all this higher prices crap started i was buying the 45acp ammo for $67 for 500rds loaded. Life was good, we could shoot cheap and not reload. Now the same 45acp ammo is $159 for 500rds and its even higher at other places too. I finally got my nato primers for my 308win. these are as rare as hens teeth. Then i seen the gun powder i needed too after looking for months to find it. I'm trying to save $$ were i can and still take the kids shootin. It pays to surf the net for the best prices too, i've seen the 1000rd cases of ammo vary between $225 to $350 per case. Not too long ago it was $99 for 1,000rds. And the name brand stuff is hitting $500. I'm thinking of buying all the 22lr ammo i can afford too. Its cheaper to shoot and it still can put meat on the table.
Even a good pellet rifle and pistol looks good too right now.

I been buying shotgun shells from www.sportsmansguide.com i watch for there sales and clearances on overstocked items. I purchased a case of sellier & bellot 12ga slugs for smooth bore 12ga shotguns. My uncle has been using these imported slugs for many years and he said they have that whistle to them and they been the best for accuracy.
For good quality, cheap 308win ammo go to www.aimsurplus.com and look at there ammo section. I like the imported Prvi-Partizan ammo and its still affordable and the accuracy is decent too. Since its boxer primed its awesome to reload this quality brass too.

This is what they been talking about and i'm sure the'll pass the bill sooner or later. Its a 500% tax on ammo.
I'm looking into casting my own bullets now too. I have the furnance, some molds and the bullet sizer and luber now if i only knew how it all works. I melt the lead and pour it into the molds and i need to get all new sizing equipment next. The stuff was given to me is just too old.

What kind of too old sizing equipment are you trying to use? One of my sizers is around 50 years old and still working fine. Feel free to email me maybe I can be of help.

Re: Higher ammo prices soon
Doesn't look like the demand for ammo is dropping off.
Olin owns Winchester. Olin's just issued annual 2009 report stated that at the beginning of 2009, Winchester's backlog had increased 30%. The backlog has remained constant as of January 2010. Ammunition shipments increased 14% in 2010.
Winchester purchased about $25 million dollars worth of lead last year.
