I stopped at a guys farm the other day to ask if he would be interested in selling his Farmall 140 out in the field. He said NO but that he was trying to get it working again. Silly me asked if it ran and what was wrong with it? Turns out the tank/cylinder is leaking oil apparently and the lift won't work on it anymore. He said the local Farmall dealer said it was going to be about $400.00 to fix it and he asked me how much I would charge to repair it?
My question is How hard is it to work on one of these items and is there any thing I should be aware of that is different then the cubs unit other than the twin hydraulic cylinders?
I really think the problem is being left outside for one, bad gaskets and basically misuse for the others. But he wants me to look at it. Of course I told him he would have to get it running and brought to my house first.....That might be more difficult then he thinks, from what I saw!
Maybe it will turn out to the good and he will sell it to get rid of it but I dought it!

Re: 140 Hydraulic rebuild
You about covered the differences, the Touch control manual in the blue ribbon section of Rudi's manual server also covers the Super A, which I believe is the same unit as the 140.

Re: 140 Hydraulic rebuild
The main thing to remember is that there are doubles of nearly everything that is in the Cub. Twice as much stuff to keep in the right place and the right side in. Fitted parts that look identical need to be kept in the original place. Other than that, it is nearly the same job as for the Cub.

Re: 140 Hydraulic rebuild
Thanks guys- I figured it was close to being the same but I didn't want any suprises when or if I take it apart. The repair parts might be more then he wants to spend right now.

Re: 140 Hydraulic rebuild
I just recently bought every o-ring, gasket and seal for the touch control for my 66 140 at the local IH dealership and it was about $100 for everything. The worst part is you have to order every part individually, there is no kit like TM has for the cubs.

Re: 140 Hydraulic rebuild
The very last listing in my parts disk for the 140 is 354007R96, which is a gasket and seal kit for units marked A.
