154???

Postby glennsjr » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:37 am

Were all lo-boys 154's?? I see a couple of pictures of lo-boys with the 154 on the hood and my lo-boy does not have the 154. The tag is useless as far as reading any numbers.

No - the first lo-boys were offset and were just called cub lo-boys.
When the number series lo-boys came out the 154 was the first of the series. They were produced from 1968 to 1974. That was followed by the 185 which was produced from 1974 through 1976. The last of the series was the 184 which was produced from 1977 to 1980.

The 154 and 185 lo-boys are nearly indistinguishable. Check the serial number and let us know. Serial numbers 07505 through 36676 are 154 Lo-Boys built from 1968 to 1974. Number 37001 through 43347 are 185s built from 1974 to 1976.

Good luck,
Bill

The 69 and eariler 154's had the blue decals on the hood while the 70 and later 154's had the black decals thats the only way i can tell mine apart. Plus the older 154's had the hydraulic return on the bottom of the tranny while the later 154's had the return line on the top cover on the tranny. On the frame in the rear on the right side frame rail there are two vertical 1/2" bolts(3/4" hex) going into the tranny / final spacer on the 70's int154 while the older 154 had nothing. One of my older 154's has two 1/2" plates welded in the space between the tranny/finals to the top of the inside of the frame gap. The newer final spacer closes up this gap then it has two bolts securing it. I have one 154 thats older with no number plate so it matches my other older int154 but not my newer int154 so i know its a 69 or older.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

If you have the light blue decals on the hood, then it's either a 68 or 69. The casting dates in the block may help, but may also throw you off, as a casting date after mid year to fall in 68 may have been a 1969 tractor. Either way, there is no difference in the 68/69 tractors.

The serial number plate is the only real way to know for sure. Try wetting it, or the old paper and pencil rub trick.
