Tobacco
Any of you southern folks know where I can get some tobbaco seeds or plants? I'd like to plant a few just so my Grandkids could see what they look like. My Dad told me about old-timers growing it around here, so it should work (if and when spring comes). John

Re: Tobacco
John i don't know how hard it would be to ship plants but this is about the time of year that the local farmers start getting their seed beds ready they grow their plants in greenhouses now if i can find a few seed i will let you know just get you some of the little cup with potting soil and keep them watered until they get big enough and the temp.gets warm enough to transfer to the field and you don't have to worry about frostbite.

Re: Tobacco
Now thats quick service. Thanks for the offer Jim. Let me know if you come up with some. I've wanted to try it for years, but never think about it until its too late. I figure, if nothing else, it should get attention. And I'm sure Bill Hudson will be along with a link to an agronomy site with info. John

When I went down to Alabama on a CUb Express Joe Brewer's dad was saying that only certain states were allowed to grow tobacco. And certain ones could grow soybeans and so on...

I thought you were allowed a few plants for personal use?
Grandaddy grew some to make his "Chaw",after he sold our allotment,
I liked the liqourish he pressed in it.
Best,
Mike

This county is still the heart of Burly but not nearly as much as it one was. If you can't find seeds let me know.

Re: Tobacco
Thanks for all the replies. I never thought this would generate this much interest. (I can only imagine what would happen if I wanted to grow the other plant you smoke ). I'm going to check out the sites mentioned and try to keep you posted with my results. This is something I've wanted to try for years, just couldn't find a round tuit. John

As Don said , if you have any Amish local I'd bet they have access.

Re: Tobacco
I've always wanted to try a few plants just to see how well they would grow here, NOT to smoke, but just to have different stuff growing!---you would not believe the people who have never seen this stuff growing! ---I never did find seed source and did not really persue it any further. thanks; sonny

Re: Tobacco
Ordered two packages of seeds (I ea. of pipe ans chaw) from Pinetree Seeds today. Real nice people to talk with on the phone. She said seeds would ship within the week. Now to start them and hope it dries up enough to plant something. I know its still a couple months early, but I'm getting itchy. John
