New toy
Well not my Farmall Cubs but still somewhat in the guidelines by being a Case.
I bought this little unit almost a year ago, a early to mid 1970's Case 1737 Case skid-steer loader with a blown drive gearbox for $300 and last Saturday I decided that I would spend the day machining the old brazed up gearbox and have ready for the snow storm/blizzard that hit the midwest and droppped aboout an average of 27" of snow here in the midwest. To say the least I was quite impressed!
Sure the heck beats a darn shovel, LOL

Re: New toy
Skidloaders are great for snow and so many other projects. I have a Case 1830 ,30 hp gas that I have used for many projects. Having forke for mine is great. My forks get used as much as the bucket.

Re: New toy
I have bad memories of a 1830C, it came to me in kit form with much of the kit missing. I had a heck of a time finding everything to put it back together. Making matters worse, the owner sold it about the time I started working on it so I was suddenly working for a fellow from Kansas. He didn't make out so good on the deal, the seller didn't tell him about all the missing stuff. Luckily for me, he was a great guy. Every time I talked to him, it seemed that I had more bad news for him, but he took it all in stride.

Agree. My dad bought a Bobcat S220 last winter to load turkey litter with as well as just use around the farm. The forks get used just as much, if not more than the bucket. It saves a lot of hand work....

Re: New toy
Well the snow is just about gone and a bad memory. We've had record breaking temps here in west central Illinois in the high 60's and low 70's
The antique skid steer loader done a great job digging us out, but I suspected the drive belt was not long for the world when I put the main gearbox back in it, so I ordered a new belt from Case, just to have it on hand. Well I picked it up a and I about fell over dead when they presented me the bill for almost 200 bucks (I always thought my equipment with green paint was expensive, now I see construction yellow isn't much better, lol)
However, I guess I really still can't complain any, I have a rebuilt gearbox with new bearings and now the new drive belt and the cost and still have less than $600 in it. I think the last drive belt we put on was 15 to 18 years ago. When the gearbox destroyed itself, my boss didn't want to spend the time and money on rebuilding it and was about ready to take the whole machine to the scrap salvage yard, well needless to say I just could not see that happening and like so many other things I bought it.
