cub 154 Hydraulic Fluid, Filter and Common Areas That Leak
I am getting ready to identify and fix a hydraulic fluid slow leak. How and where do you add new fluid. Is it necessary to change the filer next to the seat? Are there common areas to develop leaks within the hydraulic system? I don't know much about the hydraulics. Right now it squeals and struggles to raise the mower deck following using the plow all winter.

Operator's Manual - International Cub-154 Lo-Boy and the TC-131 Parts Catalog Revision 8 should be of some assistance. Although I do not have a 154 Blue Ribbon Service Manual on the server yet, I do hve the I&T version - IH-38 1974 Edition Complete. Hopefully these will be of help

Have you checked the hydraulic oil level in the tranny? Its at the rear cover plate, there's a pipe plug. A squeel is it the hydraulic blow off/relief valve squeeling at the hydraulic pistons limit(dead heading) or the pump because of a low oil level?
If your trying to operate the mower and there's a squeel its the twin PTO belts slipping.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Hi
I am going to check the hyd oil level and maybe change the filter after seeing what you found- I know little about this cub 154 lowboy but sure like it
bvRegarding the Hydraulic fluid:
Can I use local wall mart canada oil Super Tech SAE 30 Non Detergent Oil SB?
says on qt meets api service SB and recommended for use in hydraulics
Cant find IH Trans oil here yet and not sure of what weight as well
Thanks for your reply!

Hi Folks- thanks for your help
an update - found a source of HyTrans tractor oil from local truck supply so changed tranny oil and filter then checked hyd loader reservoir- it was very low 2 qts as I added to 5 in from top
BUT
I goofed measuring the level as I used a small branch 1/4 in twig foot long that dropped into the reservoir out of my butter fingers
no excuses but am in a new bit of ground away from shop tools etc
been trying to snag it but the hole does not leave a lot of room to fish
going to try a wire with bits of light wire or string and twirl it around

The lowest point in the hydraulic system is the center lift cylinder. Water can settle at this point. Might want to drain the hose and cylinder and get all the water out of the system.
