Along my travels I have found a Model 481U1112 48" mower deck which I beleive is the earlier deck for the 70/100 thru 102/123 series of Cub Cadet. My question is will this deck also fit the CC 104 tractor. Another question is that I have a 38" and 42" deck that come off of the 104 and 106. Will the spindles and pulleys fit the early 48' deck.
Thanks!
Bill

Go to Cub Cadet parts, then the parts look up, select graden tractors. In the drop down menu select the decks by model number. You can then look up the part numbers.
Decks fitting. Set the decks, with mounting frames in place on top of the mowers, side by side. This will tell you what you need to change.

Re: Model 481U1112 Mower Deck
Bill,
The early decks were "bolt on" instead of quick hitch, so, at first it will not fit. However, you can add the quick hitch pins and front loops from another deck to make it a quick hitch style. Sometime in there the decks were made to do either bolt on or quick hitch style, so you may have one of those. Regardless, you pretty much have to slide it under the tractor to see what lines up.
Three were a couple of different versions of the mower spindles, but they were all basically the same. I think that any of the old ones, up until the stamped sheet metal decks (44C 50C, etc.) will interchange. Again, you pretty much have to look at them side-by-side to figure it out. Some of the mounting flanges were different, but the internal bearings and shafts were the same.

Re: Model 481U1112 Mower Deck
Thanks,
It looks like PO has upgraded it. It has the quick hitch pins and front eyelets on it. I have not been pleased with the cut quality of the 38" deck. I have to cut in first gear with the CC104 and the same with the CC106 when the deck was on it. I'm mowing a nice field and have used the CCO and like the cut of it, I also have used Dad's JD 300 with 48" deck and a Simplicity LTG 12 with 36" deck. All the mowers cut nice but I can't get the three blade 38" to cut worth anything. Any thoughts? The 48" deck needs alot of work to get it up to be able to mow with. CCC doesn't have a parts diagram from it on the their parts site. I have a copy of the IH Cub Cadet parts listing with the IH part numbers and I will have to check the parts numbers with the CCC site.
May just have to get one of them Simplicity Legacy XL or Prestige to cut the lawn with!
Bill
PS: Pictures tomorrow!

Re: Model 481U1112 Mower Deck
You know I'm a HUGE fan of the Simplicity products. I've owned several, the last two were a 20-hp Conquest with a 54" deck, and now I have a 27-hp diesel Legacy 4x4 with 60" deck. They are BY FAR the best mowing machines that I have ever used. The Conquest 54" cut was actually better than the 60" cut on the Legacy, but I needed 4x4 and a front end loader. It seems like the 54" mower deck has a lot more lift and suction than the 60" deck.
If you look around you can find the Conquests at a good price. They don't have hydraulic lift like the Prestige (which is the only difference) and they are the same tractor otherwise, including the foot-controlled hydrostatic drive. Even my old 3416 Sovereign with the 48" mower deck was a monster and cut grass just as nice as the newer Conquest or Legacy.
As for the 38" mower on the Cub Cadet, you are experiencing what I always saw with that deck. It just seems like the blades spin too slow, and they don't cut worth a darn. I know that there were two different size center spindles used on the 38, 42, and 48" Cub Cadet decks, and you could likely change them out to maybe speed up the blades????? I've never tried it though.
Good luck,
Bill

Re: Model 481U1112 Mower Deck
Bill,
After liking at the deck and what is needed to get it in mowing shape, It's wiser to continiue to like for a 1990-2000 Simplicity Sovereign for mowing duties. I missed a 1995 last week for $1400 and it was clean with low hours. How do the stamped decks cut and how hard would it be to fit to a NF subframe?
Thanks!
