Latest Addition - 184 Lo Boy
I can't believe I stumbled on to this and was able to grab it before someone else. An excellent, original condition, 184 lo boy. Only ever used for mowing, guy was mowing with it when I went to pick it up. Carb just rebuilt, starts and runs like a top! Probably going to rebuild the starter, as it's a little noisy, and needs one new front tire, but otherwise, shes unbelievable! Almost every part and piece is there, including the battery box cover, only thing missing is the steering wheel center cap and the PTO shield for the rear of the tractor.
I had just picked up the two Cub Cadet 1811 tractors that you can see in the background, so now I'm going to have to figure out what to keep??????

Nice find congrats.
These loboys remind me of a cub cadet on steroids. There mowing machines as my local lawn mower repair guy says. Bill

Wow! Your 184 looks to be in the same condition as mine when purchased! Congrads on the excellent find!
I love the anti-scalp rollers on that mower deck too!
What options are included? Creeper? 3-Point? Combination Rear Tail Light?
Did it come with any other attachments?
I am also curious about the going price for these machines. If you don't mind me prodding, would you share the approximate purchase price?
Hopefully Grand Island is accessible via bridge or ferry! The air filter snorkel isn't quite long enough for deep water! If all else fails, use this method!

Re: Latest Addition - 184 Lo Boy
Thanks everyone. I'm anxious to get to work on it now. The two 1811s in the background went out to the Decoy Club yesterday, and I took the 184 just to mess around with it. She's got a little blow by (very little) and something in the driveline is a bit noisy, but I think it is the U joint on the driveshaft at the transmission. At a certain engine speed it makes no noise at all, so it may just need to be greased.
I need to drop the mower and clean the deck and sharpen the blades. It was mowing pretty lousy, but I know the blades are dull and the deck is packed full of grass. We were mowing some pretty heavy stuff with it, so I had to go over things a couple of times. After seeing the blowby, I wished that I had dumped a can of Sea Foam in the crankcase prior to going out to the Club. Guess I'll just have to run her a bit here .
Outdoors4ever: This one is a pretty plane Jane model. Nothing but the mower deck. There is a number welded on top of the front axle, so I'm guessing that it was owned by a golf course or a municipality somewhere. Turns out that I had a center cap for the steering wheel, although faded and yellow, but I stuck it on there anyway. I need to get the little fin/hood ornament that goes on the radiator cap. That's the only other part that I've found missing.
I'm holding off doing much to her yet. I had a standing order from a couple of people for one of these tractors, and one guy stopped by last night to look at it, so I offered it to him for what I have in it now. If he doesn't take it, I'll be ordering some front tires and going over her with a fine tooth comb.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill ijust bought a 184 that looks as good as yours it also has a front mounted 54 blade it's missing the battery box cover and pto shield but it runs like a dream i checked the comptession and every cylinder was 120lbs.so i feel good about the engine it does have some gear noise but i think that's a common thing with these tractors.

Re: Latest Addition - 184 Lo Boy
Just wondering do the number series Cubs handle the 60 belly mower the same or better than a F cub or Lo Boy?

Re: Latest Addition - 184 Lo Boy
Jackman i'm not sure but i think the 154 was about the same as a cub the 184 has the larger zenith carb.and manifold and higher compression engine and turns 2300 rpm's one of the plus factors of the numbered series is they have live pto or electric clutch so the mower keeps turning when you depress the clutch the 184 i just bought i tried it in grass about 5in. high with no problem.

Re: Latest Addition - 184 Lo Boy
thanks Jim the number series sounds better to me , more horses, rpms and a live PTO all good points. A number series is now officially on my must have list right behind a couple of dozen other must haves

Nice.. really nice looking Lo-boy I wasn't really a fan of these things, but the more I see em the more they grow on me . Enjoy this one, it is a really nice example and will probably turn a lot of heads Great buy.
