Soda blasting a carb
I was going to make one of the DIY soda blasters to clean up a carb or two.
See How to Build a Soda Blaster For Carb Cleaning & Rebuilding.
But then I was talking with Rob [oldskool] and he said he uses a small portable sandblasting gun.
I remembered Dad getting something like that at Christmas one year but never using it.
Well, I found it and dumped some baking soda in it and went to work.
Looks like a NEW carb !!
It worked so well I could read the number on the carb.

Princess had them on sale a couple weeks ago. I almost bought one, but wasn't sure if it was any good or if it would work for carbs. So, I guess if you like it that much, then maybe it would be worthwhile getting myself one

Rudi...the nice thing is you can regulate the flow...also, you can shut the flow of soda off and use it as a blowgun...real convenient.

Jeff:
21 Oz. Hopper Gravity Feed Spot Blaster Gun
Harbor Freight
Haven't found one yet at Northern Tool.
However, Princess has a couple This one appears to be identical to the one Dave has, probably go after that one as the second one seems to be a little less useful.
Gravity Fed Sandblasting Gun
Comfort Grip Gravity Feed Sandblaster
edit: add data

Haven't found the one that Dave's Dad got though... doesn't seem to be in the on-line catalog.

Re: Soda blasting a carb
Dave, great idea on the little blasting gun. Does it take a lot of CFM and air pressure to work well? Does it use much soda to do a carb? What kind of soda are we talking about using with this? Whew, enough questions for now! Steve K.

Re: Soda blasting a carb
Steve...I just have a smaller compressor:
It keeps up well enough for me.
I use regular baking soda from wallyworld - in the 2 lb box.
How much you use will depend on how bad the carb is - normally less than a box.

Re: Soda blasting a carb
Steve - they are talking about using plain old baking soda for the carbs in one of these hand held units. I don't think usage is high at all. There is a home-built unit in the how to forum that allows you to draw soda right out of the box if you want. At $10 the hand held blaster for use with baking soda would be a real good deal in my book.
