Youth rifles

I've never delt with youth guns until Grayson came along. Since he was born I've picked up a few, like the Henry mini bolt that been posted in the picture. I also have a Cricket, Mossburg Bantam and one or two others I can't remember right now.
The one I'd really like to have is a Stevens Favorite 22, they still make them but the're stiff and not near as nice as the older guns. I ordered a Savage youth but when it arrived it didn't have the acutriger like it showed in the books so I sent it back.
Any others that are nice for plinkin ???

I bought my son his first firearm for Christmas I wanted to get him a bolt action 22LR but there were none available locally I was thinking that a good first 22 is always a bolt or lever action but not finding a ggod one lead me to getting a Ruger 10/22 semi auto its a really nice unit for a youth its short and easy to control and get a shot pattern he is doing really well with it occasionally I let him do a rapid fire which he really likes too, Ruger 10/22 also has a large assortment of mods that can be added to customize and sort of build your own ,,,, The Stevens Favorite 22 looks old school I like it but never heard of that one prior to the 10/22 my son and I shot my fathers old Winchester model 63 semi auto 22LR its a vintage 1932 issue we really like the old stuff ...

Thanks Jackman, I'd not thought about the Rugers. I have a couple of those layed back.
I'll slip one of them in once he has a few more rounds using the single shots. I want to be sure he's got the safety down pat before turning him on to shooting automatics. He's never seen one fire so I'm sure he'll love it.

Yogie...I [and everyone else that tries it] love my Remington Nylon 66...rapid fire, never jam .22 plinking.

Thompson Center makes what I think is probably the safest youth rifle on the market....the Hotshot. It's a single shot break action .22 with peep site. It comes in black, camo, and pink camouflage. They are about $200.

My boy is only 1, so I've got a few years yet before I buy him one.

I don't think there is a better all-round .22 than a Ruger 10/22. Mount a good 1" scope on it and you'll be a happy camper.

They sure make a lot of extras for them, you can pick out some of the best looking stocks I've ever seen.

I'm very happy with my Henry lever action 22LR. Everybody around the house likes to shoot it. Best part is it's made in the USA.

Yogie if you want something nice find him one of the belgium made browning T-Bolts made back in the sixties they are a little pricey but i have one and it.s a tack driver they also made the T-Bolt in a left hand version.

Thanks Harold, I have some of those and I'll have to say the're the best company I've ever delt with.
My Golden Boy had never been out of the box and while cleaning I noticed the brass was starting to tarnish. I wrote the company asking what they recommended to clean it with. In a few days I got a new brass receiver in the mail and when I offered to send the old one back they told me to keep it for a spare.
I've talked to the owner several times since then about their guns, not very often you call a place and the owner answers the phone.

Single shot, breech loading. Adjustable sights. Carrying case also included. If I recall correctly the price was $129- several years ago.

I have shot the 22 barrel a couple of times. Very accurate at youth rifle range distances - 50 or 60 yards.

I looked at one of those the other day thinking about getting one to start my 4 grandsons out on. Good looking guns. They also make a 243 barrel for it which would be good to start them out deer hunting with. The one I looked at was $279 with the 243 barrel.

My 1st rifle wasn't actually a rifle.... it was a single shot .410 Mossberg. It was a gift from my grandparents when I was 8. The next year mom and dad got me a Rossi .22 pump. I still love that little gun. I thought the pump action was the coolest thing ever.

My Dad bought a Marlin 101 Single Shot Bolt Action Youth Rifle when I was 5 years old, my brother 7 and sister 2. It has a manual cocking device that required a fair pull to set.
A lot of rounds went through it. Turns out my sister was the best shot once she was old enough so she ended up with it.
