No longer in the multiple Cub club....
My second Cub was a pretty sweet machine, but Billy Clay had this equally sweet looking Super A. So after some emailing back and forth a trade was worked out....
It's a late '50. I haven't seen it all, but this Super A seems to be pretty tight. It has the quietest transmission I have ever seen on one of these tractors---there is almost no gear whine in 2nd or 3rd. The right brake pedal has very little slop and the left rear wheel doesn't flop around but just a tiny bit. It sat for a long time but it cranks right up so I am going to gas it good with Seafoam and see what it gets me.
Also if one counts my C-60 power unit on my 52R combine, I gues I'm still sort of in the MCC....

Re: No longer in the multiple Cub club....
Thanks gentlemen....my plan is sort of for this to be a working tractor. As part of my collection, I want it to look like a Super A in the late 60's and 70's....that means some mod's like a Fast Hitch, deluxe seat, sealed beam lights, Fire Crater sleves/pistons and associated "goodies," etc. Before my grandaddy' Super A was restored, it had all those items except for the Fast Hitch.
Now all I need are a '47, 49, 51, 52, and 53 models and I will have my collection!

Re: No longer in the multiple Cub club....
I tried to upload a youtube video tonight, but that just doesn't work too well on dialup....anyhow I hooked it to my IH #10 auger cart which was full of ground wheat. Used it to auger wheat into the grinder mixer to make hog feed. When you start the PTO with the cart full, it's a pretty good load. Doggone Super A handled it good! Kind of makes me want to put a plow behind it and see if I can "rattle the windows" a little bit....

Oooh.... I'd love to see that! I am getting a soft spot in my heart for those Super A's. After driving and plowing with Mr E's unit down in Florida last year, I really like the grunt that they give you when they are working. The dual hydraulics are great, too!

I am taking a coworker to look at and hopefully buy a Super A on Saturday. I wish I could get it myself. I am just low on funds right now.

The "A"s really move out in 4th gear compared to a cub too!
Too fast for anything but pavement in 4th gear. Really.
Heres one by me that seems to be a real deal. The gentleman that owns it has a few tractors and seems to take good care of them.
He called me back after I had made a deal on another one and we chatted for awhile. Good honest guy.
I asked how firm he was on the asking price and he said he'd consider offers.
This one does seem like a good one and its up for grabs!

Could probably be shipped to Wisconsin (hint hint)

Re: No longer in the multiple Cub club....
Had to make a little more feed so I took a couple still pics.
You may notice the PTO shaft is not shielded. I know it's a deathtrap. It'll be fixed soon, the auger wagon is technically part of my collection but it had to be pressed into service....

Naw man....if you're steering is good you can go right along in 4th gear. If you stretch it completely out, you might get to 10 MPH.
We had an old auger wagon much like the one I posted, except it was a "Helix" brand and only 75 Bu. One of my earliest memories is riding on my dad's knee on the Super A to fill the hog feeders--back then the local feed mill ground feed for him and loaded the auger wagon, then we pulled it home and hooked it to the tractor. Anyhow when you turn off the road onto the path to the hogs, you have to go up a slight grade (or sand hill as we call it). I vividly remember chugging right along at low throttle, climbing up that hill. IF the engine is in good shape it has enough low end grunt to tool right along at a fairly low RPM. Once we got up to the farrowing house he would drop down to third.....

Re: No longer in the multiple Cub club....
OK, you guys are making me put a picture of my Super A up again. I've done a lot of work to it since I posted pictures the day I got it. I removed the belly mower (for sale), added front and rear wheelweights, rebuilt touch control unit, rebuilt carb, rebuilt governor, added hydraulics out the back. I think it's done the way I want it now.

Re: No longer in the multiple Cub club....
That looks like a nice straight one, and must've been a kerosene/distillate burner at one time.
Cultivision tractors were super-duper common here in eastern NC, from the Cub right on up through the 140. As many as there were though, It does seem like nice clean straight Super A's like this one are getting harder and harder to find here. Those with original paint are even more scarce.

Clean Super A's are getting harding to find. I lucked out on this one, but I paid for it. I took some pics today of it's current state.
