Cub oil filter help
I have a early model Farmall Cub that has a different size oil filter in it. The 1153 filter is much shorter than the one in it. This is a manual lift tractor and there isn't a serial number tag on it. The filter that came out of it has tractor supply and kleenite on the top and L-101 on the side. I can't find a cross referance on it anywhere. Thank RT

Re: Cub oil filter help
All of the cub engines take the same filter, standard, lo boy, i54, 185, or 184, manual or hydraulic lift. I have 12 cubs, and 2 power units. I have no idea what that filter could be from. It can't be much longer than the 1153 filter, or it wouldn't fit in the housing. Ed

Re: Cub oil filter help
Just because it came out doesn't make it the correct one. No telling what somebody stuffed in there.
It's not a really old sock style like the ones in the early parts manuals? http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Cub%20Parts%20Manuals/TC-37A%20(5-2-49)/Engine/Page-20.jpg
Has the filter housing, cast as part of the block, been modified? If not will the 1153 filter fit? How is the overall length of the 1153 compared to the overall length of the one you removed? Is the one you took out built the same, I'm thinking maybe without the nipples on each end therefore appearing longer.
Pictures of the filters and housing may help identify the problem.
Welcome to the forum, we'll get the mystery solved. Feel free to ask plenty of questions.
Oh and if the tractor hasn't been started for awhile make sure to prime the oil pump!

Are we absolutely sure that we're dealing with a Farmall Cub here? Can you post a photo of your tractor?

Re: Cub oil filter help
I will try to post pictures tomorrow. The casting number located behind the oil filter housing is 354898 R1. The distributor is pointing up instead sideways and the oil pressure gauge screws in the casting. RT

Re: Cub oil filter help
That part # is shown in my TC-53 Farmall 200 parts book as a crankcase(cylinder block). Your tractor is not a Cub. The vertical distributor was likely swapped from another tractor.

Re: Cub oil filter help
Don't need a picture. 354898 R1 is a late Super A or a Super C. Serial plate should be on the left seat support, unless the seat has been changed.

Re: Cub oil filter help
I got the serial number off the seat post. #FAA35341. I think it is a 1940 A model. Thanks for the help. RT

Re: Cub oil filter help
RT, there are several guys on the board who have experience with the "A" as well. Any of which would be glad to assist with your questions. There's also a special category for other IH equipment.

Yes, 35341 would be 1940. However, that block part number is inconsistent with 1940. If you missed a digit in the serial number and it is really FAA35341?, it would be a '54 Super A. Either you have a Super A or the engine has been replaced with a newer one. Do you have a hydraulic system?
