Re: Cubfest Northeast 1 weeks and counting
When posted to Alert, Inuvik or to any other place for 183 days or less (unaccompanied), countdown was always expressed as say 182 and a wakee. When you got down to single digits -- you knew you were going home. I have heard it expressed as a sleep, a bag drag and a few other oddities. What it boils down to is a period of less than a day -- usually when you wake up on flight day you only have a few hours before the freedom bird arrived and then leaves with you butt in a canvas sling seat Even after 25 years of being retired from the military - I still have not lost the lingo -- becomes part of who you are.
Today we got a wakee left ! We is leaving tomorrow afternoon right after my daughters appointment at the pain clinic.

In the Marine Corps back in the '60's and 70's it was a "wakeup".

I'd like to bring a tractor to pull the tranny. I believe It needs a front and/or rear input shaft bearing.
Thanks,

Cecil,
I may not bring the cub for the tranny repair. I was told that most likely I need countershaft bearings to repair my issue. I have now also been told it could be something else. I am to the point that if someone has a good tranny they want to part with in the $75 to $90 dollar range, I have asked them to contact me. I will drop close to that in a handfull of bearings without knowing if it's the right fix until I bolt it back on the tractor. I'd rather go for the swap out knowing a good tranny is going back in rather than asking for people's time to do this not knowing the outcome. I'll keep you posted. Gary

Re: Cubfest Northeast 2 days and a wakeup
Gary, the seals and gaskets are more than $100. I have been doing my tranny in baby steps... possibly so I wouldn't know how much it costs! From what I have seen of a lot of transmissions there is or was water in mix. Cub bearings will probably 'work' forever after a water/oil mix, but I replace em when I have it apart.
Interesting bit about water and bearings:

Larry,
Thanks for all the info. Just the two bearings for the input or countershaft are rather pricy. Add the gasket kit and that's why I think finding a tight replacement tranny is the way to go. If I have my hands on a tranny or at least a good countershaft by fri, I pull the cub up to Cecils and go from there. There's no way I'm going to have a situation whereas I get help pulling a tranny just to find out there's more parts than it's worth and just stuffing it back on because of that. That would be a waste of help that could have been used elsewhere.
