I rebuilt the headlights that came on my '55 cub, and have a few questions:
1. Is this a CUB headlight? and if it is not, what does it belong on?
2. I do know the two halves of the connector come apart, but the female half will not fit throught the hood hole. I would like to be able to have the wires from the headlight long enough to go through the hood and THEN have a second quick-disconnect. This would give her a cleaner external appearance and future hood removal would be less difficult. Do the connectors inside that rubber boot come out so new wires may be soldered on? (So far they do not want to be pushed or pulled out)
3. If I cannot replace these wire stubs with longer ones, anyone know where I can get the female half that is wired to the supply wire?
The lights work fine, but when I had some work done on her, the guys just cut the wires making them even shorter than they were. Just don't want the splice to be out from under the hood.
The originals had wire that screwed on to the light so they could be removed through the hood holes. You could use a couple of spade connectors under the hood that won't be seen to disconnect when you need to remove the hood. That way you just disconnect the connectors each time instead of cutting the wire.
I don't believe in taking the bull by the horns. I took a goat by the horns once and that was enough excitement for me.

Yes the connectors will come out with a small flat bladed screwdriver. You may need to replace them but NAPA carries them.
Almost appear to be NAPA work or hook up lights adapted to IH headlight use.
Since the mounting studs are in the wrong position, and being that your tractor appears to be in very, very good condition, I would personally spend the money on an oem or good used correct set.

It is a cub headlight, but would not have been on a 1955 model cub originally, your Cub would have had a pancake style headlight like this:
I have been collecting, buying, and selling Farmall Cub tractors, implements, and parts for nearly 11 years.
That is a GREAT tip because I have some connectors but the wires are too short to reuse. Now I won't have to find more connectors or just simply use the standard crimp-on ones and not have the factory look. THANKS!
It is a Cub headlight (and also used on the Farmall 140 and some others). Your tractor would have the Pancake style light originally, and the light you have would have been on a Cub or 140 built in the 1960's (not sure when exactly) up until 1979. I would definitely go with the original lights. OEM sells them with the bulb, and I have some really nice used ones if you're intrested. Here are some pictures of the light you have on the later model tractors. The Cub is a 1978 model and I know for a fact it's original and the hood hasn't ever been removed. The Farmall 140 is a 1973 model and it had the original wiring and lights. Hope this helps!!
I have lights on a 76 cub and 64 cub that looks like yours except the rim or band that tightens around the bulb is not as wide as yours. The mounting stud looks the same, and the wiring connection is the same I believe. They do unplug and you can replace the wires and connectors. Your lights may have come from a 140. Your 55 cub looks great and would be even better with original pancake style headlights.
Those lights were only made in 12v and found on later Cubs and other IH tractors and combines. They also were used on the Cub Cadet original. They were made by Guide and are very good quality lights. You can change the sealed beam to 6v no problem.
Something doesn't quite look right for a 12V Guide light... But it could just be me. The company name is stamped in about the center of the rear. IH used them right up to the end, but the real late ones had a rubber ring. Guess I will look again.

Here is a photo of two (2) new in box #376849 R91 12Volt headlights I bought for the 1968 International LoBoy we had a few years back.
The lens had "GE" in the center.

I did figure out how to press out the spade connectors from the socket tonight, and that is exactly the right connector I need. THANKS!!
Now I need to decide if it is worth rebuilding a pair of pancake lights I bought at Boss' this year just to have the "proper " lights. Always something, eh?!
I am currently working on a 1969 International Cub C60 and I am looking for headlights that are round with the two blade style connector and one work/rail light that is round with the three blade style connector. All the ones I have found so far are either pancake or tear drop style and have the one wire connector. Can anyone help me by telling me if anyone makes these style headlights and have them for sale?
