You gotta do what you gotta do.
Mom's health has reached the point where she had to move to a nursing home, and we are making plans to move her mobile home which is only a few feet from our house. This includes pulling several posts that support ramps and an elevated walkway. The posts are treated 4x4s aprox. 18" to 24" deep and QuikCrete was poured around each at the rate of about 1/3 to 1/2 bag per post. They have been there for 4+ years, so they are in good. I tried the Wagner loader, but as expected, it would not budge them. After thinking things over a little, I thought about my engine hoist, which is rated to lift up to 2 tons with the arm in it's shortest position. I rolled the back of it into the loader and chained it in place.
I then raised it up and drove to each post where I set it down and wrapped a chain around the post and pumped the engine hoist cylinder. The post raised up and as soon as it broke loose I raised the loader and drove to where I wanted the post and let it down.
Sorry about the quality of the pics, but the camera in my cheapo phone is not all that great.

Common saying at work was that if you wanted to find the easy way to do a job, just have me do it. I would figure out the easiest way possible.

John:
Interesting solution to a difficult problem and a very creative use of what you had available. Amazing what a Cub can do when needed.
We have pulled fence posts and the like with the Massey, the auger truck and the cranes -- there are some serious forces at play there. Impressive

I try to pick people most suited to what they are doing. In you case that is tearing stuff down.Scrivet wrote:........

These 4x4 support a walk way about 2 feet above the ground plus a hand rail, and many of them also extend up high enough to support a roof over it all.Gary Dotson wrote:That would require some mighty long fence posts!
If I didn't have the loader, my second choice would have been the carryall. Next choice would have been a neighbor with a bigger loader, or a couple friends to help me drag the engine hoist around.regwal wrote:Good job John!
