I sure hope you are using a respirator when you are handling that coal. It kinda makes sense since Pa was kinda heavily into anthracite coal right? Is that what you were hauling or bituminous coal?

Dave, are you using a "stoker furnace"? Looks like stoker coal. How expensive is a ton of coal, now days? Don't see much of it around here anymore.

That's why the plow is on. To hold down the front end. Vern
Mine is on also. It keeps the snow away for a while.

http://www.weatherdatadepot.com/
Above site has data on heating degree days. Plug in your zip code and manipulate the input the data to determine the desired information.
I used the above site to compare Dave's and my average heating degree days. Both locations are pretty close. I plugged in my daughters house, 300 miles north of my home. Her location has about 2000 more heating degree days.
Dave's heating cost is in the same ball park as mine. I use propane for hot water and heat. I heat just under 2000 sq feet.
It's difficult to make a definitive statement when comparing annual heating cost because of the differences in the building site location, average heating degree days, type of structure, square footage, type of fuel available, etc., etc..
