'77 Longstripe QuestionSaw a pic recently of a red Farmall Cub that that the owner claimed was a 1977. The decal on the side wasn't the typical black/blue longstripe, but was silver and said, "INTERNATIONAL".
Question: Once IH started putting longstripe decals on their Cubs (late '75), did every Cub to the end of production (1979) have that longstripe decal? If so, then the Cub I saw either had its decal changed, hood changed, or it's not a '77. Stanton

Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionIt could be a 77 that had been painted with new decals, they sell repro chrome hood decals like you describe on ebay and through A&I dealers

Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionThat sure doesn't look like original IH Red paint to me. I also see some Yellow under it telling me it has been repainted before. Those "decals" look like the aluminum International Emblems like I have on a square nose hood I traded for. Surely someone didn't put the aluminum emblems on the hood and drill new holes because if that were the case, they wouldn't be mounted so low. It's possible that it is a 1977 Cub, but my guess is that the owner just doesn't know and believes it is.
Here is a picture of my 1975 Cub that someone painted Red over the yellow. Looks alot like that one!
Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionStanton,
To answer your question, yes, once they started the long-stripes, they all had them until 1979 when they stopped being produced. That "International" emblem looks like the ones from the early 1960s Cubs: ![]() Someone has just grabbed the wrong ones and slapped them on that tractor, not even in the right place. 1951 Farmall Cub, Cub Cadets 102, 104, 1811, 1864, Simplicity Legacy XL 4x4 Diesel with FEL, 60" mower, 50" Tiller
Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionThanks for answering my question. Just wanted to know in case I run across a late '75-'79 what's supposed to be on it.

Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionHere is a picture of my original 1977 Cub with original decals. The tractor could also be yellow/white, but had the same decals.

Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionHandful of ways you can quickly 'id' a true longstripe. No hood ornament (or holes), Delco alternator (no VR), key start (no pushbutton on dash), starter relay under the platform, Zenith carb that has the same dimension as the manifold, choke cable instead of rod. And especially, Boss Hog wants it.

Re: '77 Longstripe Question
Some of the very early longstripes do have the hood ornaments. The early ones also have a white grille. Paul
Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionI have never seen a true longstripe with a hood ornament. However I have seen many that had the decal that were not true longstripes

Re: '77 Longstripe Question
My longstripe has a hood ornament, but it is a 75 model and they were probably using up what hoods they had left before changing over to the ones without ornaments. ![]()
Re: '77 Longstripe QuestionRandy, does yours have a factory alternator on it?
