Re: Crankshaft
G'day to you
Sorry I don't have the answer to your first question as I am not exactly a mechanic . I just looked at the GSS-1008 - Specifications manual, but couldn't find the answer to your question. You may be able to discover the answer by conducting and Advanced Search.
In any case, there are many excellent mechanics here who should be able to help. We have a lot of resources available to our members and I would suggest reading the info at the following links.

Re: Crankshaft
Thanks to both of you.
Boss, could you please recheck the dimension with your micrometer in order to confirm the actual dimension.
By the way, mine is a 1949 Cub. Are the cranks that you are measuring also of that same era?

Re: Crankshaft
What's the plan? Curious. Why do you need to know the crankshaft pulley end diameter.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Crankshaft
Need the diameter of the crank nose in order to make a tool that will allow me to align the front cover with the O.D. of the crank nose BEFORE I install the pulley.

Re: Crankshaft
Okay. Why not set the gasket and front cover in place, with crankshaft front seal installed? Gently snugged up 4 or 5 bolts just enough to set the cover in place. Install the front pulley. Then loosen snugged bolts, install remainder of bolts, tighten.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Crankshaft
I would prefer to use an alignment tool that is a nice slip fit over the end of the crank, in order to align the front cover with the seal installed.
Then, when the front cover is snugged up, press fit the pulley onto the crank.
