Lyme Treatment
I've grown to appreciate this site's kindness and would appreciate your prayer for my wife. She's had chronic Lyme disease for over 15 years now. She's had several rounds of treatment of various types over the years but due to the undiagnosed nature of her illness for many of those years, it has a foothold on her system. (here in the south, chronic lyme disease is not as readily "believed" by many doctors) At any rate, we have chosen to proceed with IV antibiotic treatment. This will take up to 8 or 9 months and be a pretty difficult task for her. Tomorrow she has surgery to implant a port for the IV medication. She'll then be administering IV antibiotics to herself.
Pray for her procedure tomorrow, the difficulties involved with the medicine and the disease, and the dramatic expense involved with the medication. The insurance company covers very little to none of this procedure.
Thanks. We are hopeful for what this can do for her. We're also hopeful she'll not be in treatment for Boss's cubfest.

Re: Lyme Treatment
Good luck to your wife, Joel. I can tell you it is easier to treat the family dog up here than it is a person- and we are 30-40 miles from the town it is named after.

Re: Lyme Treatment
Joel, see these two websites.
http://clinicalstudies.info.nih.gov/cgi/wais/bold032001.pl?A_10-I-0139.html@arthritis
http://clinicalstudies.info.nih.gov/cgi/wais/bold032001.pl?A_96-I-0052.html@arthritis
Your wife should be eligible to participate in these two studies at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. There is no cost except transportation.
I was at NIH all last week participating in a study on carcinoid tumors, and I can tell you it was first class and one of the best things I have done in my life. They found a non-cancer disease that I did not know I had, and for my brother who was also there they found a cancer on his kidney that he did not know about. It potentially could have saved both our lives.
God works in strange ways sometimes, and perhaps this is an answer to your request for prayers.
Bob

Re: Lyme Treatment
Thanks for all the prayers. My wife's surgery went well today. Tomorrow we'll find out her treatment plan. I appreciate all the nice comments. also, Bob, I read that study. Sounds interesting, but I don't know very many people who would want to purposely let ticks bite them... I know I wouldn't.
