Need Help
Looking at a A model for $600. It supposedly has all of the cultivators along with it.
This guy bought it as a project 10 years ago, never startedit and it has been in the barn ever since. Says it does not run and has no clue what it wrong with it. It is a little rough but the sheet metal could be beat out I believe. Tires are shot. What is this thing worth?
The serial he gave me is A FAA 8736. What year does that make it.
Also, can you convert the tool bars over to hydraulic?
Can you easily find parts for the tractors?
He did mention the govenor was no good he believed.
Thanks!

Re: Need Help
An A is not worth much running in my opinion. As rough as you make it out I think $600 is too much , wait and get you a Super A they are around, just wait you will find a better one.

Re: Need Help
Thanks Boss. I also just found out it does not have the cultivators, just the leers only.
If you were going to make an offer to a guy based on what I said, what would it be?
Also, are there still replacement parts easily obtained? Case IH still have them?

Not running, no tires, no governor, no implements. Tell him you'll only charge him $50 to get it out of his yard.

Re: Need Help
$200 would be tops, I would not haul it home if it was over 50 miles away

Thanks Don. Looking to upgrade my garden to an acre and one of these machines would be perfect. I hope to find one running that needs work. I like rebuilding so that is part of the interest.
What would a Super A that basically runs and needs pretty much everything else worked on/cleaned up run with implements?

This is a bit far from you but will give you an idea as to where to start. http://louisville.craigslist.org/grd/3510789110.html
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Spent some time in your neck of the woods many, many years ago. Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. If working a one acre garden is your goal, you may also want to consider a Cub. May be easier to find the tractor and implements in your area.

Re: Need Help
txflur, in case you did not already know, an A does not have hydraulics, nor a place for them. You have to go to Super A for that.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Need Help
Good choice to look for a Super A.
Unless you can find a regular A with all the implements you need, COMPLETE, the tractor really isn't much good for anything but pulling a wagon around. Those A implements have so many pieces to them that things would get lost, and once you're missing one piece the whole implement is pretty much useless. This was in the days before universal lift systems, universal mounting, etc.. Every implement had its own lift and own mounting brackets, which were not compatible with any other implement as a general rule.
