Re: electronic ignition
Just my opinion. Convert back to the points ignition system.mike melnyk wrote:Hi I need help i put a Pertronix ign.in a 1955 cub.
OK. Are you getting fire from the coil wire? Yes.
Distributor timed to engine? And distributor in timed with crankshaft - #1 cylinder TDC compression stroke?
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: electronic ignition
What I'm reading. Tractor died. You installed a new condenser and the tractor would not run. Then you installed the electronic ignition system.mike melnyk wrote:tractor ran last year w/points then cond. went bad put another in then would not run then put electronic same
Tractor has not and will not ran with the electronic ignition system.
Am I correct?

Re: electronic ignition
If the Cub wasn't running correctly when you put the Pertronix on, you need to go back to stock and get it running first. IMHO.

Re: electronic ignition
The 6 volt electronic units are on the ragged edge of being able to operate, just a little voltage drop renders them inoperative. Check your available voltage.

Re: electronic ignition
Its possible that the low resistance of that coil fried your Pertronix. They need coils with at least 3 ohms of resistance, and ideally 4 ohms. I have no idea why, but the sages here told me to just trust them. I did, and mine's been working perfecctly with a new pertronix and a 4ohm coil. And another thing: I also converted from 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground with a Delco 10si alternator at the same time--works like a champ.
Good luck,
Good luck,
I found this old Cub, Forgotten and Forlorn,
With pistons and valves frozen and worn.
Help from my buddies on Farmallcub.com,
And an engine from Ralph, (37’s the one),
Now ole Corky is running and back to life,
Much to the surprise of my dear, dear wife!

Cecil hates electronic ignition! First thing he'd do, is tear it out, and put the points and condenser back! We could do that, and get it running. Then, when his back is turned, switch back to electronic! Ed

Re: electronic ignition
I have used a lot of petronix ignitions, have yet to have any trouble with them. You have to pay particular attention to the wiring of these ignitions. Follow the instructions. They do not wire like the point ignitions. I have sevrial in use today on my own tractors 6 and 12 volt, neg and pos ground.

Re: electronic ignition
I tried to call cecil but i lost his # and it is not listed in phone book. i wanted to talk to cecil about the ele. ign. and what Don had suggested on bring it to cecils in April. don't want to impose on anyone. 6 volt ele.ign. only needs 1.5 ohms as per pertronix. My email meln@fairpoint.net
