Corn,Okra, Peas and Potatoes**UPDATED 6/29
It has been a tough year. I planted my corn and okra on March 10th. It has been cold and we have had scattered frost very late this year. I have planted and replanted some of my peas 3 times and have about 15 rows that I am going to replant again this weekend. I just cannot get a stand and when I do it looks stunned.
In January we were wearing shorts and the fruit trees bloomed and the grass greened up. In Febuary we got 22 inches of rain. In March we had several nights into the upper 20's and frost several times. In April we had only 3 inches of rain and scattered cold and warmth during the month. Now it is May. We had a low of 42 degrees last night???
It should be lows in the 60's and highs in the 80's.
It has been a strange year.

Re: Corn,Okra, Peas and Potatoes
Tim,
I hate to sound like a broken record, however, some of the trouble with stunted plants may be due to problems in the soil. Take a soil sample and have it analyzed. You may be surprised at what you find. Your plants really start with what you can't see, below the soil surface. Contact your Early County Georgia Cooperative Extension office and ask for Brian Cresswell. Here is the contact info http://www.caes.uga.edu/extension/early/contact.html
Brian can recommend a soil test laboratory or maybe several from which you can choose. Yes, you can use the same fertilizer as the neighbors of "Uncle Zeke's Foo Foo Dust," but you are just shooting in the dark.
I'll get of my soapbox now.
Good luck, Tim.
Bill

First planting of corn went in this evening before the rain. It's a little early for here. But, what the hey. No guts, no glory.

Pretty garden, anyway you look at it, weird weather and all.
Not a garden grower myself, but if I had the land and could make one that looked like that, I might try.

Re: Corn,Okra, Peas and Potatoes
It is a pretty garden. Your weather sounds like ours here in East Texas. I had to re-plant my corn. Didn't get a stand at all. Looking good now tho. Peas just coming up, green beans, pinto beans, and butter beans look good. Last couple of days, temps in the 40's. Supposed to warm up from now on.

Looks good Tim!---we are late/cold/wet/wind here and are at least a month behind where we should be!---now the weeds have got a big start on us and we will have do a serious chemical burn-down before we can even work some of the ground!---some of it is ok, but some not ok!---we still have not had our blackberry winter here either!-- that will be another week or more of cold temps! thanks; sonny

Re: Corn,Okra, Peas and Potatoes**UPDATED**
The weather has finally gotten into a more normal pattern here and the garden looks better.
Kathy and I dug the potatoes and onions last weekend. I have replanted some peas, watermelon, squash and cucumbers in that space. I will have corn in the next 10 days and peas after that. I have cut the okra 2 times already.
The real work in about to begin!!!!

Re: Corn,Okra, Peas and Potatoes****UPDATED**
Due to a lot of early rain our garden was planted late this year, then we had to water it to get it up. corn, okra, beans, squash just a couple inches high now.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Hmmmmm,
Corn, peas, okra....
Sounds like me & you & Billy Ray need to have a "home-made vegetable soup" Fest.
And if Raymo joins us this summer we might even share a bowl (or 5) with him.
