C-22 sickle bar mower w/ fast hitch
I have a chance to buy a nice C-22 mower, but wonder if it will be difficult to use with a fast hitch on the Cub. I noticed that IH sold some extra parts for this application. Are the extra parts required to use the C-22 on a Cub with a fast hitch? I have also seen comments about this mower being a little difficult to put on the tractor. Would I be better off using a 2 point fast hitch mower behind my Farmall 200? It's bigger and not nearly as handy in close quarters. But the mower is quickly off and on.

Re: C-22 sickle bar mower w/ fast hitch
Hi,
I have a 1956 Cub with fast hitch, and I use a 22 mower on it. What age is the mower, old or newer, yellow or blue? The main thing I found is at the rear, the 2 holes that hold the bracket onto the rear axle unit, the upper hole on the bracket has a spacer welded on the back side of it. You have to get a spacer the same thickness and about the same size, and put on the lower hole, between the bracket and the fast hitch bracket. The 2 bolts are sort of long, because they go through 2 things before getting to where the threads are. You need to carefully measure the length, sticking a measure into the holes, so you get the right length bolts. The top bolt is a regular head, and the lower one is an IH tapered one, at least on mine. Mine are on the tractor, or I could tell you the length. Then there's a rod that goes on the fast hitch to hold up the hitch part way, so the hitch doesn't rub on the mower belt. I could send a picture if you need it. Glen.

Thanks Glen,
A picture would help. This mower was on a 48 Cub without hydraulics. I believe it was blue originally but not sure.

the rear mounting bracket for a fast hitch cub is different than a regular cub, the bracket is the only difference except for the belt guard

Field Conversion Package for Farmall Cubs and Cub-22 Mower to fit Cubs Equipped with a Fast Hitch
The PTO Shield that is shown here I originally thought was stock equipment. It did come with my Ellie my '48 (the Cub-22 was separated from the package) but I later found out that this is for the fast hitch package. The drawings for it are on the Manual Server.

Re: C-22 sickle bar mower w/ fast hitch
The "standard drawbar" type Cub-22 mower bolts right on to my Fast Hitch Cub, no spacers needed, just longer bolts. Works fine.
Being a little (<1/2") offset and a little off kilter (2-3 degrees) really doesn't seem to affect operation. I've mowed acres and acres with it like that.

Re: C-22 sickle bar mower w/ fast hitch
Hi,
Here's pics of the support rod. This is not essential to use the mower, but it keeps the hitch from rubbing on the belt, and is in the pic of parts that Rudi posted here. Thanks Rudi. My Dad made this one from a pic in the past, it does work on my tractor. The end with the pin in it goes in the hole for the colter, on the hitch bar. It goes in from the left side, then the loop end goes over the round bar above the hole for the colter. First, move the stop collar on the fast hitch lift rod forward on the rod about 6 inches from where the rod is attached to the hitch. Then you have to lift the back of the hitch, and put the loop over the bar, then let it down. Then the hitch arm does not rub on the belt when you let down the mower. When you want to use the hitch, you have to lift it again and take the loop end off the bar. If you make it like the pic, the loop end won't fall on the ground when it's not in use, down on the hitch bar. I don't know how IH figured this out, guess they had smart men.
If that's an early mower, the rear bracket might be different, like Tim said. I think it would hit on the fast hitch bracket, near the bottom. Maybe you could cut the mower bracket like the newer mower bracket is made, to fit on there.
Looks like my pic with the ruler went off the edge. It's 11 inches long. Glen.

Hi,
Here's pics of the Cub 22 rear mower bracket, that works with the fast hitch, like in Rudi's info above. The spacer I mentioned for the lower bolt is in Rudi's pic too.
