war cub
Having got my cub to the workshop I decieded to try and trace its history. I managed to find out that the Tractor came from a farm in Chipinge about 500 km away from wher I live.It turns out the original owner now lives in the same town as me. I have been in contact with him. The fuel tank has a number of patches in it which I thought was from rust, it turns out they were bullet holes from when his farm was raided by terrorists in the 1970s. There is a bullet hole in the back mud gaurd as well which I will leave as is and paint AK 47 next to it.

Re: war cub
It is great to be able to trace it's history, many of us have cubs we know practically nothing about. I would like to know more about 2 of the ones I own, but previous owners are no longer around to ask.

Re: war cub
Zimbabwe, eh. Most of us don't have to deal with bullet holes in our Cubs. You made me take a moment to say a prayer of thanks for that, and other life experiences, that I manage to avoid on a daily basis. Hope we can help you with your Cub rehab! Thanks!

Re: war cub
I had a Truimph GT6 that was stolen and used in a bank robbery, it was shot up during the escape. Then hidden in a garage for decades. Neat story and hope that your Cub never encounters those pesky terrorists again. Hopefully they are retired and closed the business.

I remember the troubles in Rhodesia .. back when I was still a young guy in the military it was an area that was plenty interesting to say the least. And for your Cub to have such a close tie to the troubles is definitely unique. Nice to be able to research it's history whilst it's previous owner is still able to tell about it. I kinda like your idea on what to do with the hole in the fender As I said - unique

Re: war cub
Thanks for sharing. My story pales in comparison - I'm just trying to figure out how someone managed to crack the left final drive housing almost in two, before we purchased it in the 1960's from a local IH dealer.

Shaganipatrol - are you anywhere near Mount Selinda? My cousin was a medical missionary there for most of her adult life. She died of cancer and is buried there, That was a long time ago, when the country was called Southern Rhodesia. She came to Boston for treatment and stayed with my parents, but wanted to go back to Mt. Selinda for her final months. There may be a hospital there that she helped start up. Al D

Re: war cub
Had something similar happen on my property...mid 1600's the local Indians got really sick from European diseases and the white settlers came in and killed them off to stop the spread of sickness. Their graves run up into the woods behind my place. Pretty much wiped out them out.
