I ended up with a Hy-Capacity clutch "kit" from the CaseIH dealer that came with disk, pressure plate, pilot bushing, throwout bearing, and alignment tool.
So I greased the throwout bearing expecting the grease to ooze out of the graphite. Instead the grease came squirting out a hole on the opposite side of the bearing housing!
Is this adequate? I'm ready to slide 'er back together otherwise.

Re: Throwout bearing grease
That is what it's supposed to do. The oil in the grease will leach through the graphite and lube the bearing surface. You might want to soak the face of the TOB in some oil prior to assembly if you are going to assemble it right away. If it is going to be a while before you use it, it might have time to leach lube through the graphite.

Re: Throwout bearing grease
Would it be possible for you to post the Case/IH part number for the "kit" that you had gotten?
Where you are, right now, is of absolutly no use unless you are able to get away from it, FAST!

Re: Throwout bearing grease
Make sure you use cheap grease, the new grease with not be absorbed into the bearing

Re: Throwout bearing grease
It's going to be a few days before I get back to it again, so I should be safe letting it soak.
Tractor's slid back together. It went together with nothing but a little jiggling.
Here's the part number for you Criswell... My CaseIH dealer also carries the "Hy-Capacity" line of aftermarket parts.

Re: Throwout bearing grease
To add to Boss Hogs statement, the cheap grease is composed of a wax and oil compound, and the throwout bearing is lubricated by the oil soaking out of the compound, and into the graphite block from the rear. The better quality greas does not separate easily, and while it is better for most applications, it is NOT better for this one.

Re: Throwout bearing grease
Aha John and Boss, I've had an annoying noise which I believe is coming from the TO bearing area.....It only squawks when I first move the tractor then it goes away...TO bearing looks good and everything works fine....I been using that red grease to lube it....Thats probably the answer....And sorry to interfere with your post Matt, I just got excited....lol....Dave

Re: Throwout bearing grease
reach in through the hand hole and rub a little oil into the face, and pump el cheapo grease in till the red stops coming out. Then clean up the mess.
