Re: Gasoline
Regular gas will work just fine. But having said that, I am not a fan of 10% ethanol gas. It goes stale quicker than non-ethanol and will dissolve rubber hoses, o rings, seals, washers, etc. So, I use only non-ethanol gas in all of my off-road engines. That includes all 2 cycle such as chain saws, weed eaters, etc. And of course Farmall Cubs.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Gasoline
I use ethanol regular 87 grade....I do have a lead additive, but I use it ....not so much...I use my tractors regularly (every day) and really can't monkey with or afford adding lead additives on a regular basis and chasing down or affording ethanol free gas...( Only comes in premium grade around here at way over 4 per gallon)........Dave

Re: Gasoline
Welcome to the forum, dh... I have not much to add to the talk about gasoline for your cub, but was wondering what your serial number is on your cub? You say that you have a 1946 Cub, but the Cub was not introduced to the world until 1947... Post your serial number and we can help you with the actual year of the unit!
Enjoy the forum...some really knowledgable folks here!

Re: Gasoline
hi, i've always run non ethanol in my small engines and have put it in the cub since day one, also every once in a while i put chevron "techron" in the gas for everything. i've found that weedeaters, demo saws ,tamper , etc. all start right up come spring. works for me. the gas is $4.80 a gallon here but the benefits offset the cost.................John

Re: Gasoline
We run gas straight from the pump, mostly 10% ethanol in everything that takes gasoline and have no ill effects.

Re: Gasoline
anyone know if there's anything wrong with using higher octane gas? I know they don't need it, but I bought premium to get ethanol free, then realized these engines were built for low octane fuel.. I know that using regular 87 octane in some engines can cause detonation problems, but is the opposite true?

Re: Gasoline
Hello and welcome! I am a big fan of ethanol free gasoline. Like the others have said, several drawbacks to the 10% ethanol, my biggest problem with it, it is very hard on rubber and some soft plastics (like tubing on a chain saw) not to mention the other problems. That said, a cub will run fine with 10% ethanol. Why create headaches when they can be avoided. I would still use fuel stabilizer in ethanol free gas if stuff sits for any length of time.
