Sucker for the homeless
I found another unwanted cub a few days ago, and could not leave it. I think it is a 1950 but I don't have the serial numbers with me now. It runs good with the oil pressure gauge all the way to the right, but it does have some problems. The pressure plate has lost one of the springs and also one of the nuts from the adjustment screw. The PO tried to fix it by bending the cultch pedal out past the stop to give more travel; I don't think so. Anyway here are a couple of pics let me know what you think.

Think it will need a bit of TLC. If the price is right, buy.

There is no oil on the hood, just bad paint; as for the oil under the transmission and on the rear of the engine, the PO told me that he could not keep the transmission full. I ask him how much he put in at a time, and he said about a gallon. I think that maybe that was to much for the seals to hold, but I will be doing a split anyway so I will replace the seals. The transmission make some sounds that will need some attention also.

Re: Sucker for the homeless
I got it for 600.00. I thought for that price I could deal with a few problems. The mower seems to be in good shape, he was still useing it. He would start it in gear and hope that he didn't have to stop for any reason; some people are just lucky.

You are right about the seals. The tranny only holds 3 1/2 PINTS. The full level is below the seals and they only are designed to hold back the splashing. Drain the transmission and refill and those seals may quit leaking.

I think that while I have the cub split I will replace the seals just to make sure there will not be a need to repeat anytime soon.

Re: Sucker for the homeless
Ray, a split won't get you to the axle seals on the side of the transmission. You'll have to remove the finals............then you might as well check the brakes, etc.....etc.....etc.

Yes I know that there will be a little more disassenbly, but the transmission sounds like it needs some attention, so while I am that close to the other seals I may as well get them too.

New cub, congrats. I would have guessed that it was a 1947 cub [circle cub?] from the hood. What year is it?

The serial number is 121175 I think that it would make it a 1950, but I have not had time to look it over very good and check the cast codes. I don't trust the serial numbers alone.
