Bolt Painting Idea
Hi all - I came up with this idea today to easily prime or paint bolts w/o getting paint on the threads. Had this piece of PVC laying around, drilled some holes in it placing the axle seal bolts in there for priming. I think I'll make some from larger diameter pipes for bigger, longer bolts. These bolts are individually sand blasted held in pliers - they bounce around to much in my sanding basket to do a good job.
This piece of plywood is also on a lazy susan bearing, so I don't have to walk around the parts
Wanted to share.

Re: Bolt Painting Idea
I have a couple different paint boards that I have used for years from painting light bulbs to nuts/bolts/washers and birdhouse pins
These are all good ideas to help in painting small parts.

I like the 2x6 idea John - I can see deep holes on the 6" side for longer bolts and a variety of sizes on the 2" side. I'll be making me one of these on the drill press.

They don't need to sit in, just need to go through ... you can drill em all on the flat.

I harvest all the 'we buy homes for cash" and 'finally an affordable health insurance' wire signs that appear overnight. I punch them with a 3 corner scraper and they hold bolts, valves, lifters with enough grip to hang them vertical. That plastic "cardboard" is nice and sturdy.

Bob this is to be commended. That is what I call recycling, or re purposing trash for productive activities.

Re: Bolt Painting Idea
Three corner scraper? I have some corrugated plastic, advertising signs from convenience store. Brought them home to make yard sale signs. Makes me remember, when we picked up cardboard from Owens-Illinois for the schools. At the plant it was called "corrugated cardboard", not just cardboard! They were very particular about that distinction.

Re: Bolt Painting Idea
Something like this:
I have had it for years and I do not remember where it came from. Perhaps my father's aircraft tool box. High carbon steel, file hard, great for deburring.

I'm a cardboard box kinda guy, myself. Using it for painting bolts is re-purposing. After I get done re-purposing, I recycle it.

That looks like a burnisher .. which is used to put a hook on a scraper, deburr and a host of other uses such as punching holes in things like coraplex sign boards I have 3 or 4 different styles.
