I picked up a 22 sickle today and the front mounting bracket to the tractor is different than the other 22 in the shed. The red one in the picture has the tapered implement mounting hole. The new one in blue does not. It uses a standard flat head bolt. Was there a change in the design over time?
Thanks,
Todd

Re: 22 mower mounting bracket
The blue one is a "farmer fix". Not original configuration.

Re: 22 mower mounting bracket
I don't have much experience with the 22 mower. Will the "farmer fix" hold the mower stable or will there be excess vibration?
This bracket must be a weak link in the sickle mower. I have two 22's here and both of the same brackets are either bad or replaced.

Re: 22 mower mounting bracket
Folks run them with regular bolts instead of the proper implement bolts. Wears on the brackets. And even when they use correct bolts they don't tighten them enough and still leads to wear. Have to make sure they are tight from time to time.

Hi Todd, I would taper the holes with a tapered reamer and use the tapered bolts. Works great on mine and do not loosen up. Bill WLM Cub

Thanks guys
Tmays the picture of the red bracket above is just what you described. I'm trying to decide if it can be salvaged somehow.
WLM Cub, I need to bone up on tapered reamer's. If the hole was tapered that would be best, I agree.
