serial no.

Postby Big K » Sun Oct 20, 2013 10:53 pm

Does anyone have an engine serial no. that is as messed up looking as mine (photo attached) it has been double/triple stamped? The serial number of my tractor is 21155 (1948) From what I have read so far this engine (ser. no. 8586?) is probably not the original? although it looks like it has been there all along.

Another possibility is that the bolster was changed and the serial number tag left intact.

These numbers were both on the engine.

The engine was cast on Oct 2, 1947 so it is likely the original engine for that tractor which was assembled in March 1948.

Reason: Edited to reflect correct year of engine build date.

The tractor was built in March 48 with an engine cast in OCT 48? Isn't the Q code a 47, which would make the engine cast in OCT 47 for a tractor assembled in March of 48?

Yes, that is what I meant. Man this retirement is sure making me forgetful or giving me fat fingers. It would be silly of me to think a tractor could be built in the first part of a year with an engine that hadn't been built yet. Thanks, I will also edit my post so no one reads it and thinks it is correct.

I thought maybe you were using some special retirement calendar with months all jumbled up, kinda like one of those backwards clocks.

My retirement calendar has all Saturdays on it. That leaves me quite confused at times.

Man Barnyard I am waiting for one of those "All Saturday" calandars, I got a few years to go though. Like 10 or 12. I appreciate all the help and info on this subject.
