Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
If your housings are still good, you can just buy 12v bulbs. I bought GE sealed beam bulbs for mine to replace the 6v bulbs and they cost me $13 for the pair from a local farm & home store. They also sell them on Ebay for less than $20 a pair.
I removed all the old wire that was cracked and brittle, painted the housings, drilled out the center of the grommet with a 1/2 drill bit for new wire and loom. (The original wiring is melted into the center of the grommet) Installed the new bulbs and reassembled. I can add a picture when I get home from work. If you want to keep the original look that's the way to go.

Food for thought.

Well this is more easier than taring the originals apart an trying to restore them. gonna order three of these tape em up paint them Red. cause we may end up rewiring the whole tractor may even put in a push pull light switch.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
Functionally, those lights will be as good any using that particular sealed beam lamp. But it is often surprising how different they look from the originals when mounted on a Cub.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
Well, as I have always felt, it's your tractor do with it as you see fit. Now for my 2¢ worth, I hate to see an original changed. If you are changing to 12v because of cranking problems you have a tune up problem not an electrical one. Jim Becker's advice in another thread makes sense. Put a battery maintainer on it.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
I don't mean to make anyone mad, but those are the exact lights I have on my cub. I got them from Wal-mart for less than $12 a piece. They work great. What may make people even more angry, after hitting limbs while mowing and having them shine into the sky, I decided to drop them under the post (upside down) so the correct police will have me as a multiple offender.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
Hi,
I've been looking at new lights lately too. My local NAPA has them that look about like the pic at the top, $10.20 each here in the west. The price might be different other places. They are number 620W, you can put in the number at their website and see them if you want.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
Tractor Supply carries both 6 and 12 volt lights very similar to the one shown.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
I suppose someone must have pointed this out many times --
When switching from 6v to 12v, all you have to do is wire the headlights in series rather than in parallel, and then you can use the original 6v lights.

Re: aftermarket 12 Volt Head lights
The information about wiring the 6 volt lamps in series is correct. May I point out the possible downside of that arrangement? If one burns out or is broken-- the other does not work. And it may be that replacement lamps in 6 volts are priced much higher (needs verification) than those for 12 volts-- in otherwise identical sizes.

My thoughts are, Do you want a trailer queen or something to do the job you need done. My rigs have several modifications, not all of which are easily seen.olebluegrassboy wrote:I don't mean to make anyone mad, but those are the exact lights I have on my cub. With the sealed beams that can be easily done, but if you have the original style bulbs they ground through the housing, and is not practical to do. As has been pointed out already, the down side is that if one fails you are completely out of light.RustyKnuckles wrote:I suppose someone must have pointed this out many times --

If you are not part of the solution,
