Ice Storm in Vermont with Pics
Hello all...
Its been years since I have been here, and as I said a couple months ago in a post on flail mowers I had to create a new log in ID...
Anyway that being said, "Merry Christmas" to all of you! Hope everyone has been safe and enjoying the season!
Last Friday evening where I live in northern, VT we got started getting hit with ice...lasted through Sunday, knocking power out, many trees, and lots of branches...can only do so much to clean up now with snow already on the ground, but getting the big stuff off the ground is a start.
A couple years ago I built with my dad a carry-all frame, nothing pretty...but it was from some scrap iron we had laying around.
I painted it and put it in the barn until yesterday....dragged it out and screwed some plywood to it. I thought it would come in handy to move the brush from the yard out back to the burn pile.
Here are a few pics of the ice storm, as well of the cub in action...couple videos my wife took using my iPhone. We had some warmer temps on Sunday and light rain, so it was easy in some spots to scrape off the driveway...the rest of the driveway is still under 3-4" of frozen ice and snow.
Hope you enjoy the pics and hope the video works! First time posting a video.
The finishing touches to the carry-all with my son Andrew helping
And it at work hauling brush
A video of the cub scraping/plowing ice

Re: Ice Storm in Vermont with Pics
Thanks for the pics. Ice can really do serious damage. With the chains you have on your Cub ice shouldn't present a significant problem.

I bought those chains back in 2006, with the hills on my driveway, and the snow and ice we get, they work great!
But if you spin, they will eat that black top!

All I can say is "WOW". A lot of damage there. Take care.

Great pictures and videos. Looks like you'll have a lot of clean up but with partners like you Cub and son it looks like you've got it covered.

Re: Ice Storm in Vermont with Pics
Just seeing your son helping Dad and waving at Mom put me back 25 years…..the best years of my life. Three of my sons made it home for Thanksgiving and after giving them those memories you’re giving your son now the first thing my sons/ daughter laws/girlfriends want to do when they come home is drive that tractor. Thanks for sharing the pictures…..

Re: Ice Storm in Vermont with Pics
Thanks guys...
We got power back Christmas Eve evening...but had the generator cranking away since Saturday afternoon.
My son(3) loves the Farmall cub...even has a die cast one that is and has been his favorite since he got it this summer for his birthday.
I hear you on the memories, It seems like yesterday it was me sitting on my dads knee plowing snow and getting firewood with his cub.
Every time I use them, I am impressed on how versatile they are.
Well back out to clean up more branches!

Re: Ice Storm in Vermont with Pics
My wife's brother moved to Underhill from Connecticut. He showed us similar pictures. They left Sunday morning to come back for the holiday and said the ride was dangerous. We'll be in Stowe at the end of January. I'm hoping that we will have the fluffy stuff and not "that" stuff!
She thinks my tractor's sexy...

Re: Ice Storm in Vermont with Pics
I recall, when we had a serious ice storm here some 4 or 5 or so years ago, that when the power went out (no generator then), and we looked out at the iced up branches everywhere, and at night saw that the moon (then nearly full) was reflected as a tiny sparkle of light in millions of ice bumps and such on the branches. I told myself that it took an ice storm to invent Xmas tree lights.
After a week of no power here, going to a brook to get water for the sheep, then running all the stuff from the freezer to the back of the pickup truck with cap to keep it frozen in the barn, we sure were happy to stop camping out in our own house. Lots of snapped branches. Later, when Hurricane Irene roared through here, tops of trees were snapped -- so between icing and hurricanes, a mad Mother Nature pruned lots of trees here. They're still not recovered.
Does the rear platform attach to a fast-hitch?

No I do not have a fast hitch, wish I did...
This attaches to the draw bar and the lift arm.
Lombard...
99% of the time that is where he rides...
Steering wheel makes for a head bumping location if not careful.
I also put my feet in front of his when he stands there so he does not slip.
But thanks for the pointer and keeping future cub drivers safe!
