I ended up walking away with an International Cub this past weekend at an auction.
I thought all the tractors went for a pretty good price. I got out bid on a Red Cub by $50
This was one of 3 International Cubs there I believe and 1 was a Lo-Boy.
I was definitely nervous and not to mention I usually have to have my wife pull the trigger on spending anything over $5 because I don't like to spend money.
At the auction it started right up.
I checked the tanks and everything looked good.
No welds on the ear.
The bad thing is that when I got it home it would not start. The battery is bad. So that is my first thing to get and then go through and replace the gas and grease it and check all the fluids.
Overall I think it is in pretty good condition. When I jumped it, it fired right up and steered good.
I am hoping to get it up and running sometime this week/weekend. Just gotta find a little time between work and playing with the kids.
I have a few questions though:
1. The battery that was bad was a 12 volt battery. Where is a good place to get a 12 volt battery that won't break the bank? I went to O'Reilly's and they had one for $130 and $115
2. Where would be a good place to get a sediment bulb or inline fuel filter? It has the shut off valve just not the filter.
3. The mower is a woods mower. What model is it?

Here are some pics of the International Cub. We have a cub cadet LT1050 and some how it got the name Cubby. Well my kids wanted to name this as well. My kids love tractors and tonka trucks and making noises when they drive them and the like planets. So when talking with them one said Brummer (a car noise he makes when driving his toys) and the other one said Venus (because it is yellow like Venus) so it is known as Brummer Venus.




I am hoping to get somethings done with it this weekend at the latest.

What are the things I should do besides grease it, new fuel, new mix in the radiator, new oil and oil filter?

Also as a side note. I got to meet Stanton at the auction as well. I have pm'd him many times and called him some as well with questions. I must say it was a pleasure to meet him. He is a great guy and great to talk to. I also learned a little more from him while I was there.

Last questions:
Which manual on this site would be best for this tractor? I printed out the 1967 manual and the 1974 manual.

By the serial number, it looks like you have a 1973, so either manual should work for you. Check around for batteries. Feldman's in Blue Springs sells Interstate; TSC in Lee's Summit sells Excide. Check your existing battery post terminal configuration and buy a battery of same type and group. I know the older Cubs its a group 26R (R=reverse posts). Think your '73 is the same, but just take note of where the positive and negative cables are attached and replace accordingly.

Oil and oil filter can be purchased at O'Reilly's or any auto parts store; Wix #1153 or equal. There should be a screen inside the top of your gas sediment bowl. If you want an inline filter, you can look that up on this forum (plenty of conversation about it).

Not sure which Woods model that is.

Good looking tractor! I'm with Stanton, not sure what the mower is, might be the only thing Woods about it is the sticker. If it mows that's fine though. Can't see much of the mule drive but it looks like it might be from an IH mower. Deck maybe "adapted" from a lawn tractor, there's an awful lot of pulleys on there is what makes me think lawn tractor.

Another possibility is a blem battery if you have an Interstate (or other brand) battery "depot" near you. Blems have been discussed before but are basically when someone buys a battery puts it in and it goes "dead" in a short time. They bring it back jump up and down and demand a new battery. They take the new one and put it in and when it goes "dead" in a couple weeks they fix the alternator. The battery place charges and tests the first battery which is fine but they can't sell it as new so it's a blem(ished) battery. They sell those at a discount

Sediment bowl should do you fine for filtering, I personally don't care for in line filters. The exception being the sintered one that fits in the end of the gas line at the carb. There's a how to in the how to section. I'm not sure what you have when you say you have the shutoff but not the filter. The sediment bowl is a glass bowl with no filter medium other than the screen mentioned. The gas flows down from the tank through the shut off valve and into the post in the middle of the sediment bowl. From there it should be divereted sideways out into the bowl. Heavy dirt and rust particles settle to the bottom and as the bowl fills gas is forced up through the screen to catch any large floaters and out the gas line to the carb. Heavy particles and water settle to the bottom which you can see through the glass, if it's clean, and you know when to take it off and clean/dump it.

Looks like you found a nice one! Looks good. I don't know what that deck is, as others have said, it may be some sort of hybrid.

Mower is tough to name, looks like it may have been originally for a number Lo Boy or??? How it is rigged at the back may give some clues.

If the battery connections are original, the ground strap will tell you what you need (left or right) as the ground will only reach one corner of the battery. Cubs don't need a lot of power to start, so pretty much any battery that fits will do.

I'm still curious about that mower deck. I know that in years past Woods has made decks for OEM manufacturers like Kubota. Maybe someone retro fitted that deck to your Cub. If so it appears they did a really good job. How does it cut, does everything seem to work as it should, blade speed good?

Well, I got the tractor started.
I haven't been able to do much this week due to work but I made it to get a batter today.
I put it in and it started right up. I drove it around in our pasture for a little bit checking out the gears and everything.
Everything seems to be working pretty good.
I tried the mower and everytime I tried to start the mower it would run and then kill the whole tractor.
Is there something I am missing with this?

Also I saw steam coming from the top of the radiator.
Is this a bad thing?

Once I get it mowing I will tell you how the deck does.
