Potato Cake. Source of Recipe unknown.
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 heaping cup mashed potatoes
1 cup margarine
1/2 cup milk
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup pecans
Sift dry ingredients together. Cream butter, sugar and egg yokes. Then add mashed potatoes and mix well. Add milk and flour alternately, then add nuts. Fold in beaten egg whites.
Bake at 350 deg for 45 minutes. Frost if desired.

When my daughter was learning to cook she made "ME" tollhouse cookies. I would eat the cookies and tell her they were great. Then I would tell her my favorite cookie was oatmeal/raisin. Next batch of cookies - tollhouse. We had a conversation when she was about 35 years old. She said that she had just figured out that I didn't like tollhouse cookies.
I collected recipes when I was stationed in Germany. Most of the recipes are German cooking. I do have one for dough balls for carp.

I use Mrs Minnick's Sauerbraten Mix (actually, it's a liquid) for my sour beef. It comes in a glass container shaped like a fancy booze bottle. Find it with vinegar, ketchup, etc area of the supermarket, at least here in the Mid-Atlantic region.
