2 seater

Postby midget-farmer » Wed Sep 05, 2007 6:18 pm

OK Guys - I've been thinking of adding a second seat to the cub so I can give my kids rides. I would prefer something removable.

Have any of you done this? Are there any pictures I can use as a reference? :D

Here's one that belongs to my brother-in-law. It's hard to see in the picture but it's the seat off an old horse-drawn implement bolted to the side of the drawbar.

I knew I could count on you guys. - That second one looks a little too close to the PTO.

On the first picture do you know if there are any problems getting to the gear shift & PTO if someone is sitting there?

That's not a problem at all. The second seat is above where the left wheel usually is.

There are a lot of ways to add a seat. The pictures already posted give you a couple ideas. You need to decide what works for you. If you are adding it to give kids a ride, you need to be the safety engineer too. Make sure they can't get a hand or foot into a wheel or anything else. You also need to make sure that they can't fall off and land in front of a wheel.

You are correct on the safety. That is why I am concerned about putting a seat in behind the existing one. I don't want little toes to have access to the PTO pully.

What about a nice wide bench seat? I've seen the 'Delux' option. Could I just get one of those & make a buck board or bench seat?

That sounds like something that would be able to be removed easily, too. If you get really creative it could have a pull down bar over the kid's side kind of like a ski lift. Obviously not as secure as a seatbelt, but it'd be something there to hold them in. George's probably takes the cake for a two seater, but he builds stuff I can't even dream about. I'll be real interested to see what you come up with, in another year or so mine'll both be old enough to ride around with me a bit more.

Take the pulley off, put on an OEM style shield and leave the PTO out of gear. I don't think it will be much of a hazard. I'd be more concerned about keeping the tires out or reach. You need to have some kind of platform or foot rests.

Hey George! If I'm guessing correctly, the left portion of your 2-seater is right hand axle and housing. Again, I'm guessing here... Can you bolt up a right hand axle and housing for the left side? Or is there more to it? Along the lines of machining/welding/fabrication/axle stretcher/black magic?

This is a very interesting idea, especially if it is "reversible".

Fellow in our local tractor club took some 1in. tubing, came off 4 points on the back of his IH, bent/welded the tubing into what resembles a very nice 3 ft. wide lawn chair, Then used the plastic lawn chair webbing to make the seat/backrest. Looks good, very sturdy, and feet/arms are out of harms way. Will post a picture next time I see it. Frank

I believe Art Chester built a two seat addition similar the Kodiak Karry-All. I know he posted some pictures of it.
