Here is some pics of my planter, I removed the row markers because I like the looks of it without them, a little more simple, Plus they make it really hard to get on and off.

I would love to have one of those to try. Looks real good. Now you have to use it and let us know how things work.

Not for a million bucks. It gets a little whiter everytime I wash it. I even tried a little paint stripper. Just let it bubble, and then sprayed it off with the waterhose, and more white. You should see the bottom, it's solid white. Whoever repainted this one did a lowsy job. Big thanks to him. They're are alot of restored demo's out there but you can't hardly argue this one. :D

Looks great Brandon. I can't wait until I hook mine up. I am still missing a couple of things mainly the drive sprocket and and drive chain but I have time to locate those.

Brandon,

Thanks for the good close up pics of your planter. It is different than mine. The runner part that is. I am not real sure mine is a farmall brand. My runner is a lot different than yours. My runner unit is fastened to the tool bar itself, and mounts where the tool bar extensions go. It works great, just don't know what I have. Thanks again.

Billy

Billy,
Show us a picture of what you have. Between all of us, we'll probably id it.

Well the one above has the optional spring tooth feet, and the optional middlebuster, as well as the deep fertilize applicator. Take all that stuff off, and it's very similiar to mine. I'm no expert, there may be some very small differences, but they are basically the same. I've heard there is very little difference in a 174 and a 172, mine came with a 50 cub that was bought new. I have the deep applicator and the furrowing attachment, I've just never put them on.

The essential difference between the 2 planters pictured above is in how they are mounted to the universal mounting frames. Brandon's is rigidly bolted to it. Pete's has a hinge that allows the rear of the planter frame to float up and down some relative to the front. Brandon's is a 172. Pete's is 174 style, although there were conversion packages to change 172s over to the later style.

Brandon, the two snakehead scratcher teeth were just some I picked up while looking for parts, the only reason they're on there is to help cover the seed a little more consistently. They aren't what is supposed to be used there. The middle buster type layoff plow is another thing I picked up and is not standard. I do love the deep fertilize applicator though. Pete

Cecil,

I have one so all we need to do is get it up there and the entire package fits easily in the wagon. I was thinking of mounting it on the 52 after I fix the rear seal sometime in between travel this winter. The belly mower can come off now that the 74 is pretty much ready for work except for a little weeping from the radiator gasket. The 74 is a super-running machine. oil pressure is above the halfway mark at a very slow idle. Thanks again for helping me get it home

Jim, I learned long ago not to argue with someone who knew more about the subject than I did. However, seems we have a mini-mystery here. These are scans from Rudi's manuals.
