474 Planter " Almost Finished"

Postby tractordad » Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:56 pm

Well, 2 months of eating rust, dust and overspray, and I'm to this point. Planters pretty much done. I have NOS seed tubes yet install and the seed hoppers but I'm this close. Anyone who has or knows where I can get brackets to go from a 1 1/4 square tool bar to the gang beam clamp on each side, it would be greatly appreciated. I need a minimum of a 6" drop down to the planters. These will be mounted on my cub witth the dual hoppeers.

I need to mount to here. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated

All nice and blue. :D I think IH paint committee really hit a home run, the implement blue looks great against the IH red. I can't wait to see the planter on the tractor.

OK... I'll give... what do you plant with that thing that is not going to get destroyed by the rear wheels or get messed up when it comes time to cultivate the crops?

I really like the double-sided planter idea, though... pretty neat!

Beans, Mike. And you use a bean cultivator to cultivate it with. The wheels run inbetween the rows.
And you next ? is :D

And that is most likely one of the rarest Planters for a cub

Nice planter...good luck finding those brackets. But the longer I stare at the illustration the more I think it would be easy to make something up, like you said it's just a 6 inch drop, the only concern would be the fatigue at the bend downward. Maybe some kind of fillet could be welded in to strengthen it. In fact I'll bet you figure it out by Friday, hurry up though 'cause you're running out of time to get the winter bean crop in.

Nice. Boy, those are rare beasts. Saw a couple of hoppers and parts on Ebay once but that was about it. What a great project.

Hoppers are not IH, but Planet Junior and they are capable of planting a lot more than beans. Small seeds like lettuce, parsnips, spinach, cabbage are all possible.

Finding the seed plates will be a challenge. Looks like #5460 may still be available from the dealer.

CW,

My thoughts are this, 1 1/4 round stock from top to bottom, using a torch to bend to fit, no welds. ubolts to tool bar. Lift eye on round stock to clamp to cultivator
