Powdery Mildew Control

Wanted to share this great result.

A few years ago our raised beds got infected with Powdery Mildew. It hit our whole area hard - so much so that local green houses stopped selling plants like Impatiens, summer squash and zucchini. Two years now we lost all our squash and flowers.

This year - I noticed the dreaded white spots returning. Went out to Pinterest and found this idea that seemed simple enough so wanted to give it a try. I was advised to take 40% milk and 60% water put into a sprayer and wet the top and underside of the leaves.

I'm pleased to report that after just two applications 2 days apart the Powdery Mildew is ALL Gone!
A nice organic solution to a very bad problem. BTW - our Peony plants also caught it bad this year. Killed it there also.

KEN, We gave up on impatiens, but would like to try your spray. Does it make any difference if we use whole milk or skim milk.

Bill - the Pinterest post I got this idea from did not mention milk fat %. I used 1% with great results.

Never hears of the milk, but have had good results Neem oil. It is an organic item and also works on many insects.

Don - I used 400ml Milk and 600ml of water. The squirt bottle I had was not marked in fluid ounces.

Have to try it….I've been using a Bonide copper spray supposedly recommended by organic farmers…..Heard you were ill, hope your doing better…Dave

That must be why my Grandmother in the 50s use to wipe her flower leaves with milk and water.

I swear by this solution. We just harvested the 1st summer squash from the home garden in 3 summers. I sprayed again last evening as the spots were coming back. This morning the leaves are back to solid green. There is evidence that there was fungus there, but it's gone.
