I took the air cleaner cap off my 1951 Cub over weekend and there was not any paper media within it. Seems to me, dirt would easily get sucked down through oil bath and mess it up in a hurry. Are you suppose to install something else within the cap? I would guess not but wanted to double check. Thanks in advance.

No, just clean out the cup on the bottom and refill with engine oil. Periodically, you can remove the entire air cleaner and flush out the whole thing witb kerosene, then blow dry, and refill the cup as before.
Check out the owners manuals above (QUICK LINKS, then PDF MANUALS). There is an entire section on Lubrication, with a diagram, and photos of the specific items with complete description/frequency of lubrication.

Hi,
It gives the number of hours of use in the owner's manual that the air cleaner is supposed to be removed and washed.
The cap in your pic can be tightened in the pipe so it doesn't fall off.
If you have good paint, I use a rag, and fold it up some, and place it on the top of the cap when the cap is in place in the pipe, then hit it lightly with a rubber hammer in the center of the top. This should tighten it in the pipe.
If the paint is good, try to not crack it.

Doesn't have paper media in it, the filtration occurs farther down, in the oil bath air cleaner. No paper filter in the system.
