Air Cleaner
- - Empty Air Cleaner Oil Cup
- Clean the entire air cleaner and tube and orifice
- Ensure a good connection between the metal tube and the rubber tubes (replace rubber tubes as necessary)
- Refill Air Cleaner Oil Cup
- - Drain Radiator
- Flush radiator and engine with water
- o Note: “When you pull the lower water manifold. Flush the inside of the block's water jacket and the lower radiator housing- you want to remove any buildup around the bottom of the cylinders.” (Eugene, farmallcub.com)
- - Grease all zerks
- Lubricate the fan
- Engine
- - Drain Oil
- Flush Engine
- Replace Oil Filter (say something here about paper gasket, reuse, etc.)
- Replace with fresh oil
- - Drain Transmission
- Re-fill with kerosene
- Drive cub around in low gear
- Flush kerosene
- Replace with tranny fluid (should this instead say "Replace with 80/90 gear oil or hi Tran fluid"?) and be sure not to overfill, as condensation can cause more liquid to come out than should be re-added. (k hutchins, farmallcub.com)
- - Drain Steering Box
- Re-fill with kerosene (should this be removed? A PM from a very senior member says there isn't enough movement in the steering box for this to do anything. It is included due to a comment in the original thread, but if it serves no real purpose, I can remove it. What should be done if the lubrication in the steering box is gunked up?)
- Now what? Assume I need to drive around and turn the thing a few times, though that isn't explicitly stated...
- Replace oil in steering box
- - Remove front wheels
- Fix dents in rims (not lubrication, but do this first)
- Inspect and replace/repack front wheel bearings
- - Remove the pans from the finals
- Clean the pan for the finals
- Reinstall the pans
- Refill with grease. (instead of grease, should this be 90 wt gear oil?)
- - Before 1964, the Cub was 6V positive ground. Starting with serial number 224401, Cubs are 12 volts, negative ground. It is not uncommon for older Cubs to have been converted to 12V negative ground. (More on determining whether your cub has been converted later)
- Replace spark plugs
- Remove and fully charge battery
- Clean posts/grounds
- Dress and regap or replace and gap points. If the points have been burned, they should be replaced and not just dressed and regapped. New points can be purchased from TM Tractor Parts (a sponsor for farmallcub.com).
- Check ignition timing and mechanical advance operation
- Degrease (keep any high pressure spray away from ignition components)
- Lubricate mechanical advance pivot
- - Spray every nut and bolt with PB Blaster
- Check and set the tappet clearance on the valves.
- Check the fan and generator/alternator belts
- Adjust the brakes
- Adjust the clutch
- - Drain fuel in tank
- Scrub fuel tank
- Clean fuel bowl (replace screen & gasket)
