anyone know the weight of a bushel of ear corn?

I'm trying to figure out how many bushels my gravity box holds. I picked 3 1/2 acres, and got 27,000 lbs of ear corn out of it. I had my gravity box weighed and it was almost 6000 lbs on the nose(5920 with some room to spare). I would guess it holds about 125 bushel, but that means the ear corn weighs 48 lbs per bushel. That seems a bit light to me. It was deffinitely a dry year, and I am getting lots of loose shelled corn in each load, I just can't believe the corn is that dry. Of course, 160 bushel to the acre of ear corn is absolutely nothing to brag about. I think the deer and raccoons ate most of it.

Around here you would have bragging rights. 90 to 105 bushels to the acre on my land and on bottom land 140 bushel to the acre at $3.25 a bushel. Another dry year… maybe it will pay for the fuel.

Well, this was aonce in alifetime year for corn... I don't know what else to say.

I just bought a 25,000 bushel dryer and a a new idea super picker/sheller.

If I break even, I will be happy. chances are, I will get close to een, but based on years past, I will fall short... again. If I get $100 out of hte experience, I will be happy. At least the cows are fat and happy. I'm doing $0.12 a head in feed right now. That is all I can ask for, and thank my lucky stars.
 
We just finished picking here, corn was 14.2% moisture. Weight of ear corn varies a lot depending on ear size. If I remember, we used to figure 46 lbs.

That’s about what it is here too.

Anybody have Soybeans? How many bushel’s an acre are you getting with beans in your area?

Jack, most of the beans around here have been 50 to 55 bu. Some have been a little lower and some a little higher depending on timely rains. We've had below normal rainfall for the last 3 years.
 
55 bu. here also @ $6.25 a Bu. Corn @$3.25. Our rainfall is way below also. We’re hoping for some of those old time fall soaking rains we used to get.
 
A very good book that has most of the answers for this type of question is a Farm Builder's Handbook by R.J.Lytle (main but not only author)
